A rare video with an animal fight I managed to shoot by coincidence. A rat fights for survival with a bird.

Filmed this while having a nap on a bench in Madrid. I heard that strange sound and I was quite surprised to see this duel. It looks like a magpie but not sure and a mouse or small rat maybe? At the end you can see that there were more of the birds and well I just couldn't watch that any longer, went there to save the mouse. Moved it to a safe place and gave it a piece of bread.

Magpie boxed very well in the opening round, controlling the pace throughout and held the centre of the path. The long to mid range pecks, great footwork, Roland had no answer. Later in the round, Magpie had Roland backed into a corner with hard straight pecks, Roland fought back with some excellent counter attacks and had some nice defensive head movement, was it enough to win the round for Roland? I don't think he so. A 10-8 round magpie, he is definitely up on the scorecards. Roland's corner will have some choice words and will have to change a few things in the next few rounds or it could be a bad night for Roland, the ref could stop things early.

What happened after the video? I moved the rat to a safe place in some bushes with dense vegetation nearby and gave it food. Why didn't I interfere earlier? Cause I expected the rat to fight back and scare the bird off. This is how nature works after all, if I were not there it would have to keep fighting or give up anyway. Many of the people here are sympathizing with the rat but if it appeared at their house, they probably wouldn't hesitate to use poison or other ways to get rid of it. The irony of life. This is a very young juvenile rat, just weaned and learning the cruelty of the outside world. Already injured, and can't put up much of a fight. Sadly, I don't think the rat will live very long after this. The lives of wild animals is so harsh, should make one appreciate the luxuries we have.

rat live very shortly regardless,i had a pet rat and it died from old age at 3 years
