"Come follow me, Out of dark obscurity" Love to hear Dagmar Krause sing that! Love the way Chris Cutler play! Great Song, Great Band
@corkykab12 жыл бұрын
Agree completely. Haven't heard this (one of my favorites) in years, and this mix doesn't compare. Even so, truly seminal stuff, and reminds me of a time when "modern" music was chock full of surprises and unimagined delights...

The Rhythm is great...13+13+14+14+15+14. The 6/8 part in the middle is great too...the sax is so beautiful! Then it goes into 5+8+6+8++7+8, with the sax accenting the last 8th note in each group. Instrumental 13/8 part, then back to 13+13+14+14+15+15. Very deep lyrics, too. Someone needs to hurry up inventing that time machine.

I agree with you that the Henry Cow and Magma seem to be in some sense opposites, but I'm pretty sure they were mutual admirers, and Magma helped organize HC concerts in France
@YellowJelly137 жыл бұрын
Magma also participated in the RIO festivals organized by Henry Cow. The "similar opposites" thing is pretty interesting though, as it manifested beyond the musical. As an example of this, the members of Henry Cow were Communists, while Christian Vander from Magma was a Fascist, and funnily enough, that shows in their music. Such a fantastic duo.
@maureenwalsh54545 жыл бұрын
@@YellowJelly13 Christian Vander ain't a fascist,
@YellowJelly134 жыл бұрын
@@maureenwalsh5454 he was, there are testimonies from other band members that he hanged hitler posters in his room, some Magma songs have transliterations of chants like "Fuhr Mein Fuhrer Adolf Hitler", and after a long controversy where fans demanded explanations from him he never denied the accusations of being a fascist and instead his wife stepped up to tell others to leave him alone (again, without denying the fascism accusations).
@powblockmaster3 жыл бұрын
@@YellowJelly13 It's only a rumor. He's never confirmed or denied it. We don't know how reliable Daevid Allen's comments are. Even if he sympathized with fascists, he never actually did anything to further his ideology. There's still active regimes killing people today, so I don't really care if some zany musician happens to have unrealistic fantasies about a fascist regime and left it at that.
@YellowJelly133 жыл бұрын
@@powblockmaster it's not a rumor, the evidence towards Vanders being a nazi is staggering, culminating with a group of fans asking Vanders if he was a fascist and him not saying anything in response, and instead his wife coming up and say to not talk about it (without denying it either) "Even if he sympathized with fascists, he never actually did anything to further his ideology." He's still a fascist. Even then, chanting germanic chants with transliterations of "Fuhr Mein Fuhrer Adolf Hitler" is pretty dubious anyways.
