Interesting. I’m my dental school, we don’t use that flat metal instrument, I think using the fingers is less anxiety inducing for the patient. We also use a hand mirror to examine the palatal/labial surface of the teeth and soft tissues

Ofc. This was just a poor mans oral examination. With the patient sitting like that, and not using a hand mirror, there is no way you could perform a decent examination..
