I can tell you’re a newbie. I have retired friends living in the Chiangmai & Chiangmai area and the air pollution gets so bad that they leave this area for three months ( February-April) . A couple of my foreign friends have moved to other parts of Thailand because if the burning season in northern Thailand. FYI Cambodia is less expensive and easier for foreigners to retire in. ( no requirement to keep 800,000 baht in a Thai bank, no 90 day reporting to immigration for example)

I live in Thailand now. When deciding where I was going to live it was between chiang mai and hua hin. I chose hua hin but still love chiang mai & rai for many many reasons. Still visit regularly. Cheap flights out of bkk.

Wow amazing vlogs. Please visit India once. In India you must visit Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Lakshmanjhola, Shimla and Kashmir in North India. And you must visit Mumbai, pune, Ahemdabad , Jaipur in west India and also must visit Sardar sarovar Dam in Gujarat ( It's has world's Tallest statues). In capital city New Delhi visit AeroCity, Gurugram and Noida but don't visit old Delhi. Also visit Indore, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Trivandrum, Vizag , Hampi, Mysore in southern India. South India has many Ancient sites and many UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore . And at last visit Darjeeling hill station, Gangtok, Guwahati, Cherapunji in North East India. And additionally must visit Andaman and Nicobar Island, Lakshadweep and Goa for exotic white beaches and coral reefs of India. And please avoid visiting old cities like old Delhi and Agra. And use Ola and Uber for cab services instead of local Taxis. India is Beautiful, diverse and safe to spend holidays. Visit once we will wait to see your vlogs on above mentioned places in India. Ok i have been to Thailand but not Chiang Mai. You said the streets are sage. Do you mean like crime safe? Because crossing and driving in SE Asia seem very problematic. lol

Chiang Mai is pretty relaxed and there’s not much traffic. A stark contrast from Bangkok. So the streets are safe not only from crime, but also chaotic traffic.

I worked in Bangkok for 16 years, now retired in rural Thailand. I see 2-3 Americans / “foreigners” on weekends only for a beer. You don’t have to live in a tourist city.

Chiang Mai is a DUMP!! Traffic is horrendous, all the good attractions are hours by car and not much to do in the actual city, least pedestrian friendly city in Thailand, the air pollution is the WORST in the world for several months, and so BORING! Of all the fantastic places to visit and live in Thailand, why waste your time in Chiang Mai?
