That would be my biggest issue with Californias moving to Texas, they want to bring there political bs with them and change Texas into another cesspool. I feel if you kept voting for the same bs political crap for 30 years or more your braindead and deserve to suffer due to it. I moved out of cali for that reason and lack of freedoms, especially gun ans self defense rights.

I don't know what part of California she used to live in. But I'm a home owner here in California. My property tax is $8000.00 a year on a $900,000.00. Which is the average price of a decent home here. Good luck to anyone trying to buy a home here. I don't know how high it is in Texas but it can't be as high as California just because of the average price of a home.

Well she is young...your perspective and priorities change when you get older or have children. I would be negative on Austin too when I was in my twenties...but that changes when you get more responsibilities. Not having sidewalks means you're not having homeless, crazies and roaming thugs wander in front of your house or take over your block. You don't think about your safety or your neighborhood 10 years from now as much when you're young.

Born and raised in Austin. I didn’t really have anything against Californians, most that moved near me were pretty friendly… Until… they moved in. A MASSIVE family from California moved in a couple houses down. I think the parents were constantly drunk as there were A TON of alcohol bottles littered around their yard. Worst part was that the dad or something would ride his LOUD motorcycle at like 3 in the morning through the alleyway. Thank god they moved out about a year ago and got replaced by another, but friendly California family.

Yes that is the point, there is an exodus and its because only the wealthy can live in california, everyone else is just surviving. The fact is that crime and homelessness is still rising and the big businesses are gradually all moving out which takes the jobs and money and will impact the economy negatively. If this continues, 10 years from now california will be a wasteland.

I'm from Los Angeles and I took my first trip to Texas about a week before you posted this video in the San Antonio area and totally agree people are totally nice! Even the lady I sat next to on the plan invited me over for BBQ with her family if I decided to move my family out there. While I did not venture out to Austin (got as far as New Braunfels) I felt San Antonio was very diverse and people showed respect to one another even if you did or did not have a mask on. Also a pro tip I found if you are looking to buy a house find out where the city limit is and if you buy right outside it your property taxes will be about half compared to living in the city. Great video! Thanks for sharing your experience. If all goes well I'll be in Texas by June!

Also, the South by Southwest film/music festival was always great. I miss some of the best Tex-Mex food you could ever get there as well as some of the best BBQ. I miss going to Lonhorn football games. I miss taking a boat out on Lake Travis and Lake Austin. I miss all the friendly deer in Lakeway. L.A. is filthy and full of homeless. I lived in CA for about 40 years in both So.Cal & Nor.Cal and now live in Texas for the past 4 years. There is a lot to like about Tx. The people are very friendly, lots of greenery, parks, trails, diversity and nature. The population density in general is way better than CA. In my experience food is more expensive here in TX and it's very hot. There are so many CA transplants here that I'm amazed. For the most part I feel the time has passed to move here for financial reasons. Property taxes are high and home prices have almost doubled in the past 5-6 years and at a much higher % than in CA in area's close to Dallas. TX is definitely more business friendly and is attracting billions of $'s in new development and companies moving here. A lot of people that move from LA or SF might not like it here because it's not intense or high strung and it has a very casual laid back vibe. My absolute favorite thing that I love about TX is the political diversity. You won't be hated or assaulted for having certain political views and you won't need to be in the closet about it like you do in CA. If you truly want to have freedom of speech and want to live free, TX is a great place to live. I frequently visit CA and talk to friends about the TX lifestyle and many think it's what TX used to be 20 plus years ago. I enjoy visiting CA and have plenty of friends and lot's of family there and would move back under the right circumstances. Just know that TX is very different so you should do your homework and talk to both people that have lived here for a long time as well as people that moved here from CA to better understand the differences.

This isn't meant to be rude in any way but it is funny that you could almost guarantee that someone coming from California plans on moving to Austin. I mean a lot of people from California are definitely moving here to San Antonio but I'm not really understanding why people want to move to Austin so bad because Austin is a shadow of its former self. Texas is also nowhere near as cheap as it used to be before this influx of people. I would say a good plan is to move to somewhere that no one else is really moving to unless you just really need that city life.

Yes CA has Prop13 to control property tax, but TX has no state income tax and a sales tax of 6.25% vs CA State Income Tax of up to 13% and SF sales tax of 8.6%, which after local add ons is actually around 9.2%.

Moved from San Diego to Austin 1.5years ago. I’m Asian, but I look Hispanic to some. I haven’t experienced racism, but ppl are haters when they find out I’m from Cali. Ppl do stare at us sometimes when we go out. I don’t consider that being racist, I just take it as they’re staring cuz we’re cute. Lol. Everyone’s mostly friendly, however. I think Texans can tell we’re not from here maybe by the way we dress? Or the way we look in general. I dunno. When I meet people, the first thing they ask is where I’m originally from. A neighbor asked rudely what made us move here? What we’re doing here? Why are we here? Went to a party a month ago and met some born & raised Texans & they definitely seem annoyed that a lot of us are from Cali. They made some snide remarks about Californians. So far, we are happy here raising our family in a beautiful safe neighborhood. It’s somewhat diverse depending on the part of town you’re in. Go east of the 35 & it definitely gets more diverse, the people and the food.

You bring your shitty fusion restaurants, annoying obsessiveness with weed and overall "wHy DOnT yOu guYs hAvE pubLIC TRanspoRTaTion" attitude everywhere you go. In general, you guys ruin everything you touch yet have the audacity to make complaints in a state that you're now in without remembering that you came here bc you were too broke to live in your own state. First I would like to say welcome to Texas. A couple things I’d like to go over with you just to put things in perspective. Texas is a very large place and you can’t judge all of it from Austin. If you want diversity culture arts in restaurants you need to go to Houston. If you want the young by as you mentioned, and you are a young especially young liberal, Austin is a great place for you. San Antonio has a lot of scenery and touristy places like the Riverwalk and such and largely Hispanic. And Dallas is well it’s Dallas, it’s not horrible it’s not great but I wouldn’t go out of your way to go there honestly. Corpus Christi is a major hub for spring breakers. If you want to gamble you can take a 8 Hour Rd. trip to Louisiana. If you want mountains you can take probably a 10 to 12 hour trip to South East New Mexico in that area. Cloudcroft New Mexico is really awesome in the summertime weatherwise. That area is also a ski area I believe as well. Now you mention the high property tax, which I agree Texas does have that. However you fail to mention there is absolutely no income tax in the state of Texas either. Notwithstanding the low cost of living and low cost of housing. Compare gas prices between the two states as well. Texans are tough breed and when the chips are down and a catastrophe hits we come together fairly easy. Again welcome to Texas I hope you enjoy it here and I help I put things into a little bit of better perspective.

Registering my cars in CA was actually very easy with the help of the CHP, doing the same with the TX DMV was a nightmare. Sure, home prices are less expensive in TX, but the taxes and fees involved with everything else is insane. So i agree, for very niche things TX has more "freedom" and is less expensive. but largely for everything else I found that not to be the case.

Austin is still a small city compared to the other major Texas cities. Where Houston has the most diverse population in the nation, and Dallas as well has been getting more diverse. And both those cities have all the international city features with countless museums and I think houston is second to new York with It’s theater district. Also Houston has the best food because of all the diversity and lots of mixing of the cultural foods. But Houston is not as pretty geographically as Austin, same with Dallas.

I am from So Cal and can critique this well. First off, Don't California Texas if unhappy with California than why would you want one of the best states in the union to end up like Cal. People leave California for various reasons. Property tax might be higher but do the math. If your property tax here is 5k on avg but you do not pay state income tax you won and then some. I own property in both states I pay $4500 on a 600k 1500 SQ FT 3bd Condo in Downey and I pay $5300 on a 1800 SQ Ft 4+3 Home in Austin. However, I see my money at work. Yes it's not perfect and I lived in multiple countires so maybe people should not expect the same or compare one place to another. There are bike lanes all over Downtown Austin so I am not sure what you are talking about. Have you been to Hot Pot Alley or the Little Sheep. For me finding true Mexican food is hard because it's Tex Mex. But the limited amount of Homeless compare to LA, lower cost of living even though Austin still isn't cheap, gas is $2 less, good luck finding a 1+1 under 3000 in SF or LA Downtown about half in Austin. Minimal traffic at best. I can go from one end to the other in 45 min which would be 2+ hours in LA. I had allergies in Cali yet Cedar had done minimal. Its nice to have blue vs brown or orange skies from smog or fires. In two hours you can be in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston and 3 hours to the Casino in Oklahoma. It's a large state but same goes from SD to SF is about 10 hours and if lucky due to traffic. People are nice it's about networking. People will bend over backwards to help you but at the same time some things are backwards or just far behind. No different then when I lived in other parts of the world you can't expect everything to be the way you grew up. Freedom is more than guns and no masks. I don't agree with everything on either side of politics but why do we have to deal with so many changes and everyone has their feelings hurt over something that is minimal. Grow up and adult up. But yes Constitutionally I fee free as a Patriot and an American, able to to bleed red, white and blue. If you want to travel, majority of America is central to the US. My biggest issue honestly is that some fruit or vegetables is not as fresh but understandable because majority is coming from Cali or Mexico. Maybe I should start my own channel but be 100% raw take it or leave it with clips of how beautiful it is. Also if you are from Nor Cal heat will be an issue but So Cal and not on the beach but the valley or inland around Downtown it's 95F on avg with mild humidity, heat wave is about 105. Nothing out of the norm and if you are a drinker get in line. More bars than 711 and avg is $5-10 drink not $20. Drink Up, Eat Up and Indulge in Texas the best state in the Union.

Yes, property taxes are higher in Texas, but property values are by far lower. In the end you will pay less in property taxes in Texas than in California. Then there are no state income taxes in Texas ware in California you have to pay up to 12.3% in income taxes. Then on top of that you have to pay even more in sales tax in California than in Texas. In San Francisco a one-bedroom apartment costs on average $2,343 a month were in Auston you can rent a 4-bedroom 2 bath house for that same amount of money. There is no comparing Texas to California when money is involved. Texas will win hands down in every economic category.

When it comes to how much it costs to live between two places not only do you need to look at property taxes but also income taxes, sales taxes, rent or mortgage payments, utilities, food, entertainment, and every other factor that costs money. San Francisco and New York City are two of the most expensive places to live in the US where in B.F. Nowhere in Fly Over state can be the cheapest place to live.

Yes, you should assimilate to the place you chose to move to. I'm from Cali. If someone moved from Texas to California and went on about how great Texas was, you'd most likely tell them to go back to Texas. As you should. Probably, if you embrace the local culture, you'd find more people gravitate to your circle. When in Texas, do as the Texans do. I moved from LA to a small town in Oregon (at the time). I don't do all the things my neighbors do, but I respect and admire what they can do.

I live in Texas but I think of my self as a Californian. Do I want to return to California, not on your life! Do I like Texas, not really and why, the goodoldboy politics that infests the state. If you are not politically connected the system will grind you into the dirt with an iron boot. I'm a libertarian and unless I need something I just want to be left alone but that does not happen in texas. In texas the politically connected will f**k you over just because they can get away with it with impunity. If there was a state that had decent weather that was libertarian and not a red or blue state I would move there in a heart beat.

The last of diversity is real. But it's two ways. I've tried to talk to the Hispanic people here in Austin since moving from Cali and they don't seem particularly interested, almost like they are happy just being friends within the Hispanic community, especially in Riverside. In LA most of my friends were from white, black and Hispanic backgrounds and it wasn't an issue at all. It's not racist or hostile, it's just not integrated. The food is also bad outside of BBQ, breakfast tacos and some Tex Mex spots. Add coffee to that too, just not blown away by it. Cali food is better, no question. Austin is safer, thank you second amendment. Cleaner, thanks to the prop we voted in to stop homeless erecting tents right on top of you and littering the place with drugs. Alcohol on Sundays is a stupid rule, I agree with that. They don't enforce any marijuana laws in ATX, it will be legalized in a few years state wide most likely. Abortion is also not black and white, there should be, and there are, instances where its fine, but Cali....you can abort a baby the day before it's born. Just no. Thats not freedom, thats where we need to prey for the culture thats lost its soul.

I don't understand why the lack of diversity is a problem, I say this as a biracial man by the way. The reason Texas is better than California is because of the people who make it up. People live in a place, and those people shape how it is. I live in a state that is over 90% white as a biracial (half black) man but the people are great so it is my home. I don't care about race. If you don't want to assimilate or respect the culture or the people why move there? Why live in a place where you have nothing but contempt for the people living there? I don't get it.

@@girlvamonos Most of your cons (except for infrastructure) would be fixed when moving to Houston. It's the humidity mixed with the heat that makes you just want to jump off the nearest balcony. If you decide to give TX another chance, this is your city.

@@laslw I agree, Houston has a lot of positives that I would love- Arts and Culture, Diversity, Food Options!!!.. But the hiking and nature scene!?!?! Lol hiking is a huge part of my lifestyle and I like to go at least once a week! 🥲🤔

Lack of diversity means too many white people. If a white person went and lived in Mexico city and explained that there was not alot of diversity, what would that person be saying and what would you think of them for saying it?

@@rop7101 Do any of those white people complain about the lack of diversity? And, Texas now belongs to the US. Using your parlance, sucks for Mexico.

Interesting. I had a totally different experience in Austin. It was congested with people and traffic. I didn't see any cowboys or guns. I did see a lot of masks. I also did see a lot of Hispanic people. I'm Hispanic and I thought I would stick out but I didn't lol

It's not just Texas but most of the eastern United States is privately owned , I have lived in Vegas for over twenty years and around eighty percent of Nevada is owned by the federal government but I grew up in Kentucky which is a very rural state but most of the land even wooded is privately owned so I just grew up with that so it wouldn't be a big deal to me. And every body pretty much has the same religion ( southern Baptist) eats the same , dresses the same has the same political views so probably much more of a cookie cutter society than in Austin. That is the best thing I like about living in Vegas is it is so multicultural compared to western KY. But I do miss the home town friendliness and the green landscape.

By all means try out other states/cities/locations, but if you know you're leaving please don't vote for idiotic leftwing policies and then skip town. But even worse, don't vote for idiotic leftwing policies and then STAY to keep contributing to the demise of yet another state.
