I think this is a good video and I agree with everything said about matching the locomotion to the experience provided to enhance and drill to the core fantasy being executed and communicated to the player. However I’ve been constantly thinking about movement in VR recently and specifically about pushing the envelope, so I was really hoping the video would talk more about different mobility VR challenges and techniques, with more of a focus on how to capture the satisfying traversal loops which enamor players in pancake games. Surfing like in Tribes or Source games has been attempted in VR by Jet Island and Movement VR for example. We’ve seen VR games attempt to incorporate sliding, mantling, double jumping, bunny hopping, air dashing, flipping, wall climbing, wall jumping, lots of grappling, gliding, hovering, flying, teleporting, driving, swimming, kayaking, with everything that has been done, I think it would be nice to have a movement in VR video that didn’t have to explain itself and spend so long talking about basic concepts but instead dove deeper on the nuances and granularity of how different mechanics combine to affect a players enjoyment through maneuvering through their environment.

I would have loved to include these additions into the video. The only reason I didn't add them is to keep the video short and sweet. It could've been so much longer, but you're absolutely right! I've been playing a lot of Jet Island and I'm in love! I think that the opportunity for specialized movement mechanics is absolutely present in the VR space! If only more people had stronger stomachs, I'm sure we'd see so much more than niche titles! Thank you for watching the video. It means a lot to me and I hope you enjoyed it!

I remember when I got my headset and played Raw Data. The fucking elevators in that game man, I just closed my eyes because I got so motion sick by them. Now though, I can play Boneworks, VTOL, VRChat for hours without feeling a thing. Time really helps you feel accustomed to the different types of locomotion in games, but for VR and games on the platform to grow and catch a following, they really need to (as you said) fit the game and the players of the game.

Similar to the Arm Swinging method, VR devs should try implementing a Thigh Lifting mechanism that uses the VR Headset's lower cameras to scan for when the sitting Player lifts their thighs in way that emulates walking

Controller-less jumping could also be achieved using a Gesture Method by having the VR Headset's cameras scan for when the Player lifts up one or both of their arms up Super Mario-style, thereby triggering a jump in-game

Both of my proposed methods + a Swivel Chair for turning, would make for a very convenient VR experience imo

Appreciate it! My content isn't for everyone, and I understand that some people stop by just because they're curious but get bored within a minute. I don't blame them, I'm the same way! But my goal is to make at least 1 person laugh or enjoy their time here. So I appreciate you stopping by!
