I think Hollywood forgets that some of the best franchises started off with low budget. The way I look at a remakes such as the first Plant of the Apes now, is just as if they are a parody, it’s much more enjoyable that way. I have to be elevated though, lol💚

I knew I wasn’t going to agree with their opinion on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Sure, bias is a big play here since I watched that one first growing up and haven’t seen the OG yet. But I think it’s overhated. (Also, the original author hated the OG while Tim Burton’s version is more accurate to the book) I genuinely love the film! Me and my little sister love to rewatch it a lot. It’s a comfort movie for us.

To correct Steve, The Absent Minded Professor didn't star Jerry Lewis, it was Fred MacMurray. I grew up watching it a ton! They also made a sequel to it called Son of Flubber, which isn't as good, but it's a fun little romp.

I'm usually one for leaving things the way they were. I love the original planet of the apes series. I grew up with it from when I was a kid. That being said, I enjoyed the remakes more. I have both the original series and all of the remakes on DVD and I have to admit, I watch the new versions more often. This may be the only time when I say any remake is better.

This is a podcast I didn't even know I needed but I LOVE this. Finally hearing other people say the things about these movies I've been thinking about too. I'm from Belgium and not many people are that invested in these kinds of films or just don't appreciate the originals enough and the nostalgia around it, so they automatically love sequels and prequels and reboots. Man, finally something getting off my chest and feeling like I'm not alone with these thoughts about these movies.

I did not like the all female Ghostbusters movie I felt it was a big flop, but the new Ghostbusters, where there’s a continuation with the grandkids I freaking adore! Because it’s not a reboot I think the only reboots that I enjoyed was parent trap and freaky Friday because Jamie Lee Curtis she’s amazing. I’ll watch anything she’s in. Now for the lion King I totally agree with all your sentiments, but when I went to the movie theater just recently to watch the new Beetlejuice movie, which I loved there was a thing for a new lion King, but it was based off of Mufasa when he was a cub. And it made me actually feel really sad because James Earl Jones had just passed away like a week prior to that. So I can honestly say I don’t know if I will watch Mufasa.

I like the idea of the Remake, you know. I know a lot of people think of the, "Well the original is just so good, why would you remake it?" But like, when I was young, my Dad used to sit me down and watch movies from the 60's and 70s or even earlier. Real cheesy stuff, bad production... but it might have been huge at the time. And I hated it. And I mean, I was nagging on some real classics. But the thing is, from the weird oddly fake green screen backdrops, to the bad effects, corny dialogue, outdated aesthetic... I just couldn't. Now, if I I see a remake of something I grew up with a couple of decades ago, the animation just doesn't hold up, the effects are choppy. Sure I still love them, but I can see a world where the modern day audience won't watch them. So when a studio makes a remake, it's not just to remake an old property. It's to sell their back catalogue too. And while that's greedy, the film fan inside of me is thinking... Man, this is going to get people to go back and watch these originals and see exactly what they're missing. And obviously I'm talking mostly about good remakes, like It. But even bad ones. It sucks that the remake is garbage, but if you're online looking at reviews and comments about The Crow, and its leading you to Alex Proyas... That's not a waste of time in my opinion.

I remember going to see Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when I was 5 with my mum when we lived in Toronto. The all women’s Ghostbusters was horrible! The continuation of the original Ghostbusters was great because you could relate to the next generation continuing on from the originals and we got the original cast in it too. The homage to Ramis was brilliant. I was in high school when Ghostbusters came out and I took a kid I was babysitting to see it and he was about 8 at the time and he thought it was cool and wasn’t afraid Jaxon. Charleton Heston was the man in the disaster movies in the 70’s except for the Poseidon Adventure that he wasn’t in.

Disney hit a lull after Walt Disney passed away, which was during the making of The Jungle Book, so as a result during the 70s and into the 80s (their darkest era in movie-making), they struggled to keep the magic going. It wouldn't be until The Little Mermaid came out in 1989 that Disney finally regained the magic they once had before.

The cast of Feig's Ghostbusters was great. Paul Feig was the entirety of the problem with it. Some of the one-liners were great. Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones were very competent in their delivery and there's no faulting McKinnon and Wiig, Hemsworth could've dialed it back just a little but it was the writing that was horrible, not him. The issue is Paul Feig made a crappy movie that depended on one liners like his Freaks and Geeks. He has one decent comedy to his name, and that was Bridesmaids, and that again was only great because of the very competent cast. TL;DR Paul Feig sucks and should not be allowed to handle other beloved IPs.

This is going to be a lot. Regarding It - the original starring Tim Curry as Pennywise was a 2 part TV movie, not a theatrical release. There's a lot you can do in a 2017 that you couldn't do on 1990s TV. It's interesting that they are criticizing Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya for 'not' disappearing into roles when Tom Cruise has made doing the exact same thing for 40 years. Also Dune didn't inspire Game of Thrones. The Wars of the Roses inspired GoT. Also, there isn't a remake of Jumanji. The reality is there don't seem to be any new ideas in the entertainment industry. They make a movie based on a book. Then make a musical of the movie and then a movie of the musical that was based on a movie.
