When I was in 7th grade, I started a collection that continues to grow today as I’m in my 30s. It wasn’t baseball cards. It wasn’t action figures. It was original theatrically released movie posters. Over a hundred of them. And today, I’m digging them all out of storage and working on a system to preserve them for many years to come.
#movieposter #collector #memorabilia
An original movie poster’s size is typically 27 inches wide by 40 inches high. That’s a big piece of paper.
I found a website called Baroque Portfolios (baroqueportfolios.com) that distributes high-quality storage portfolios with movie poster collectors in mind. The portfolios come in three sizes: 18x24, 24x36, and - the one I’ll be showcasing here in this video - 27x41.
Let’s talk about the outside first...
This portfolio has a black durable bi-cast leather exterior. It’s got a full zipper enclosure that protects your collection from dust and debris
On the inside...
There is a black high-strength metal multi-ring binder. It includes 20 double-sided oversized acid-free sleeves sealed on three sides with a pocket size of 27.5 x 41.5 inches.
For transport, it can safely hold up to 25 sleeves, or 50 prints. There’s even a convenient handle and a shoulder strap.
Since I was only able to fit 50 posters in this portfolio, which by the way runs at a little over $200, I had to be very selective on what made the cut. Of the hundreds of posters I own, I picked these because of two factors:
1. I love the movie
2. The artwork is fantastic
Of course, authenticity is something to keep in mind. To establish authenticity you can check the paper size, texture, and NSS information to determine the age of most film posters.
If a poster is an original print made during the film’s theatrical run, is double-sided, and is made with specific paper stock weight, you’ve got a winner on your hands.
Realizing the rarity and demand of something like this, I’m very pleased with this Baroque Portfolio and I highly recommend it to any movie poster collector out there.

Man I need to buy me one of these. I still have my movie posters from when I worked at the movies. And having one of these would be great to have. Cuz I really need to put my Lord or War, all jackass movie posters and the first transformers. I have others but those are my favorites that I own. Original theater posters. 😊

Great idea. I didn't know this sort of thing was available. Sure beats trying to find one of those "rack" things where the posters are in frames and the frames are attached to a rack that you flip through the posters. But WOW pretty expensive.

Thanks for showcasing that. I was looking for something for my posters. Greetings Dane, I’m a fellow Disney Movie Insider member, started collecting maybe just a bit before the pandemic, but they’ve all been in their original tubes/toblerone box. Just got my Deadpool and Wolverine Payoff poster the other day and was considering a light box, which is how I stumbled upon your video. May consider the Portfolio now as well. Do you also have a light box for display purposes or do you mostly keep them in the Baroque Portfolio?
@DaneNeves
@DaneNeves Сағат бұрын
Thanks for watching! I've only displayed my posters in standard hanging frames. This was also when I was a mere teenager. A light box would be really cool if you have the space for it! The portfolio, for me, is really to just preserve the bedroom artwork of my youth.

I was at a car-boot sale (flea market) recently and there was a woman selling old posters from when she worked at a movie theatre in the 90s. I was really interested in buying some but for some reason I didn't end up picking up anything. I think it was because I was overwhelmed by choice and didn't really know where to start with it all.

When you said a poster is double-sided does that mean the image is on both sides of the poster (possibly flipped)? I was imagining that being the case depending on which side of the theater a poster was displayed on.
@DaneNeves
@DaneNeves Жыл бұрын
Yup! It's the same image only mirrored (one side is "normal", the other side is "backward") so that when you shine light through it, like how the movie theaters' display cases do, the image pops.

I live near a movie theater that throws their posters away, I get them for free from them instead of them throwing them out. I don't actually make that much money from my job, I don't make enough to buy these portfolios but I have well over 100 posters from movies over the last couple years, I put them in tubes but the older ones have slightly worn down edges because the tubes don't protect the edges obviously, any idea what I can do on a low budget?

When I was a kid collecting movie posters, I only had 5 frames (27x40) hung up in my room. I had a ton of posters and I would occasionally swap out posters in the frames depending on my mood or if I got tired of seeing what was already up. Maybe you could find some frames at a thrift shop and do that? Rotate the posters out every month or so?
@Axodus
@Axodus 9 ай бұрын
@@DaneNeves That would be nice to do and I might get a few frames in the future, but that doesn't exactly solve the root problem of the edges wearing down inside of the tubes for the older posters.

Thank you. I have been looking for something like this. Your opinion please... Not knowing where you live of course, I am in Australia, what I am seeing locally is that cinemas are no longer hanging paper posters. They have all switched too screens. I have been collecting posters for decades which were actually hung up in the cinema during a movies run. Pin holes, creases and all. To me they are 100% authentic and used for their intended purpose, the promotion of a film. I was told the other day in a facebook group that these posters are basically worthless and collectors only want pristine mint versions. Ones that have never seen a cinema. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.
@DaneNeves
@DaneNeves Жыл бұрын
Oh that's interesting! I live in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. I just saw Avatar the other day and was checking out the posters. They were still traditional paper posters. And yeah, I would imagine posters that have pin holes or folds or tears or were once displayed outside of a proper frame would have lesser value than ones that were kept in better condition. It's just the way things are, I guess.

@@anthonykelsey7842 That's worked sometimes for me! Depends on the theater, really. Some of them are under the careful watch of the studios, who require them to return all their posters/displays.
