A classic ! Another staple of 1980s cable, I saw this one a million times as a teenager.

Great discussion. I first saw it at the drive-in on a double bill with Happy Birthday to Me (1981). I was around 14.

Enjoyed this from start to finish. I also enjoyed When A Stranger Calls Back. I will watch anything with Carol Kane, be it thriller, comedy or drama. I saw her with Al Pacino in Hunters, that is really brilliant. I liked her in Two and a Half Men, as Shelley.

I still love this movie despite its flaws and I have the DVD. Totally agree that the first 20 minutes are iconic in horror movie history and it goes off on a weird tangent that doesn't quite work. I think it would have worked better as a short story within an Amicus style portmanteau movie with one or two other short stories. I also think this movie really did influence Scream and that terrifying opening scene with Drew Barrymore.

It was actually based on a true story. 1950 something a 13 year old was babysitting and strange things were happening n she did call the cops and she was found dead but the baby was safe. And the cops did have their suspensions. But still unsolved.

We talked about it way back on one of our very early shows, but we've definitely been wanting to do a revisit on it (since the show was mostly about the case that inspired the movie). :-)

Cool I got something early. Listen guys I’m serious about the offer I made. I like the patreon model and think it’s better than what else is out there.

Have you seen the 1993 sequel “When a stranger Calls Back”? It was made by the same director, Fred Walton, and stars Jill Schoelen, Carol Kane, and Charles Durning. In some ways, I like the sequel better. I think the narrative and structure hang together more. However, they do retcon a few details from the original film.

I haven't (or if I did, it was a really long time ago and I can't remember it), but seeing this one again made me want to see it.

This movie suffers from the "popped its load too early" syndrome...lol
