Great analysis and review. Just watched for the first time last night and loved it! Always looking for good film/movie suggestions. Especially old time classics. Thx.

Sullivan's Travels: one of my favorites and Preston Sturges absolute genius. Hard to pick my favorite from his repertoire. I have often wondered about a point you bring up here between dazzling dialog and plot--ultimately we don't care about the plot if we're getting the laughs. His comedy is more than good enough to carry more than its share of cinematic weight in his films. All hail Preston Sturges! Thank you for this.

One thing left unsaid is that in spite of the screwball situations and characters. these are all comedies for adults, with adult situations. My fave might be The Palm Beach Story, which starts outa little too slow but then gains powerful momentum and doesn't stop until the last crazy frame.

Good point. His films were definitely adult in nature. They are the type of scripts that can be enjoyed by all ages, but as you age you understand the meaning underneath some of the lines, and it become even funnier. 🙂
