This sounds like a standard blockbuster version of USA’s COLONY. Remember that show? It was pretty damn good, actually. Shame nobody watched it enough to keep it on.

It is EXACTLY Colony, except not as good as they try to put a season or two worth of Colony in a show that is just focused on The Mission. The Mission is even nearly identical to things that happened in Colony.

I've actually seen it, and while I disagree heavily with Bob's rating on quality (I thought it was pretty good), you are absolutely correct on the similarities between The Combine in Half-Life 2 and The Legislators in this movie. I'm going through all the possible ways they can relate, and only minor differences come out, mainly visual themes. Who knows, the director could be a fan (not that it would excuse knocking it off), or possibly (tinfoil hat on) this was adapted from a scrapped half life movie script while they didn't have the rights to use.

Basically the Aliens made a collaboration deal with the rich assholes of the nation on the terms of Surrender. And took over by establishing a Psudo-government with Shadow affiliates to build an underground perservation center for their species while they expend much of Earth's resources. These creatures then forced the population to ingest "worms" that identify you, that spy on all your activities, and that keep track of your location. The movie explains that people who violate laws, are apart of the resistance movements, are usually captured and deported off planet and back to the homeworlds of these creatures. What these creatures are after, I can't say, why do they want our resources, I can't say. What's in the underground perservation centers? Possible inter-species mingling, possible terraforming of planet Earth with even the Mayor and US representatives eager to move offworld themselves just to save their own skin.

I almost want to see this now because I have two extremes when it comes to plot twists. I either have it figured out before everyone else or I'm so shocked at the twist and my friends wonder why I hadn't figured it out. I think the latter usually happens when I'm actually entertained enough by the movie to enjoy it and get distracted.

Yes, literally everyone in the comments is saying this, but holy balls, the setting and setup of this film sounds like a Half-Life 2 fanfiction with the names changed. Down to the whole "human law enforcement and government officials collaborating with the invading alien force" that's a dead ringer for Administrator Breen and City 17 Security. Y'know, as a teenager, I was probably too young and naive to appreciate that HL2 might have been going for the same real-world parallels that you're saying this film is? Guess it needs another replay.

I wouldn't listen to Bob on this, its a pretty good movie regardless. Granted I consider myself a film geek, but I found it well made and gripping. Bob saying its predictable is a meme at this point, there are movies that are predictable but unless you know a lot going in and LOOK for ways to guess plot points down the road, it's not an issue people would actually have with this movie.

It was about what I expected going in. I was hoping it would surprise me with something a bit more, but it just met expectations for what it was advertised to b. It was a bit convoluted and they didn't clarify the aliens very well. Although I caught the ending twist a by the beginning of the 3rd act, my wife still walked out not fully understanding what happened at the end. She's not as savvy of a movie-goer as I am, but she's not a dummy, so I don't think they made the twist too simple.

Out of curiosity, have you ever seen Army of Shadows, a film about resistance figures in Vichy Paris, or Battle of Algiers, which was so influential in detailing insurrection that the U.S. military screened the film after the Iraqi Invasion? Both of these films are considered classics (and rightfully so) and I for one appreciate the pacing and the way characters and events are set up. There's no real twists here, just explanations for the slower audience members which might be condescending but not for me to judge. I actually love this film for its flaws as well as despite them. And I want more films like this that take chances.

Speaking of the "Americans, how would YOU like it" metaphor thing, I'm still pretty bummed that they stripped the Cold War metaphor out of the Kree-Skrull war. The Kree and the Skrulls use planets as pawns in much the same way the Americans and Soviets used power during the Cold War, which in turn makes it easier for Americans to understand why foreigners--even from allied nations--resent us over the way we use our power. The Cold War ended, but America is still manipulating whole nations the way we always have, so the Cold War metaphor of the Kree-Skrull war is still needed today. I liked Captain Marvel overall, but that was probably my biggest beef with the movie.

Hey, I have a car from 2001 produced right after the 9/11 attacks... but I've failed to find the message printed on the side of the door panels stating the manufacturers sympathize with the 9/11 attack victims and their families.. Why is that? Oh, that's right, because that'd be fucking dumb, unprofessional and completely unrelated and unasked for. Look Bob, I respect you as a film critic and I like your movie reviews. What I neither care about nor respect is your opinion on current day events, especially when you incorporate them into a video that's completely unrelated to said events. From your previous political statements that were, in most cases, relevant to the movies you were reviewing at said time, I had already understood that your affiliation differs from mine, and that's fine. I don't have to agree with your political or societal stances or beliefs and convictions in order to appreciate or like your professional content, which is of high quality. However, if you want to sympathize with people do it on your fucking facebook page or some form of blog, Don't shove it down our throats by incorporating it into the products you sell. You are, of course, free to do whatever the hell you want because it's your video.. but I find it important to share my opinion which you are free to ignore, just as I'm free to stop watching your content. I disagree with giving terrorist attacks more media coverage than strictly necessary, and seeing you do something that I seriously disagree with makes me unable to enjoy the content I came here for. Good day to you, and FUCK you and your insincere sympathies.

@@kadsl123 everyone can do something. Even if its in some small way, go out and protest. Write your elected officials. Try to get involved in groups that promote peace and acceptance. We can all be part of making this better, but when all we do is post online, its just to make ourselves feel better.

@@Jayfive276 Typical insecure response. It always has to be about someone being smart then someone else. We can all get involved in some way s I already stated on here. Hope and prayers or well wishing does NOTHING to help the problem.

Since you clearly know better than everyone else, what can Bob do that would bring these people back to life? More importantly, why aren't you doing anything that would undo this tragedy? What are you doing in this situation other than crying out for attention & fanning like you're somehow morally superior for doing so?
