I still get chills at the awe and majesty of this film. This sequence in particular. Clint Mansell’s score is the best I’ve heard in my lifetime. It’s a tragedy that no one saw this in the theater. I saw it opening day in LA and there were maybe four people there. I sat in bliss and what Darren put on the screen. A timeless classic to revisit any time.

You know Clint Mansell started out as frontman for an indie band called Pop Will Eat Itself? There stuff is quite subversive. Love this film.

Yes. I saw PWEI in Dallas back 1992. I met him and the guys from EMF(opening act) and they were really nice lads, Clint was a bit of a drunk jerk. Funny, how he went from XYZ to such beautiful scores.

I went to see it in the theater with my buddy. He thought it was "meh", but I was absolutely astounded. One of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen, from both a cinematic as well as a storytelling perspective. There are so many layers to this film it's hard to single out any one, but the one that resonated with me the most back then (even as a single man) and even more so now that I'm married is that Tom throws himself with complete abandon into a single purpose and will stop at absolutely nothing to finding a cure to save his dying wife. That concept gives me chills, because I would absolutely do the same. Now, should he have spent more time with her? Yeah, but sometimes that's what we do.

I was fortunate to see this in the theater. That moment he says "Behold." And we finally see the Tree of Life, and the music swells up... might be my favorite moment in this movie... always gets me.

I saw this in the theater... Watched to my surprise roughly 30% walk out... And I've never seen people walking out of a movie in my life, ever. I was deeply touched back then. I have re-watched roughly 30 times since. And it's as if the Creator is watching the story of my life, me... The existence... The meaning of life... What a miracle! This touched my very being and I cry because it is beautiful.

There is something eerie, special, scary ,exciting and mysterious about this movie... I watch about once a year. Listen to the sound track to put me to sleep... I can't quite put my finger on the magic of this film and it's message... but love conquers all... now and forever

The message is simple at the end. Or lets say the simplest message is quite simple 😂, there may be multiple layers of messages in here. But the simplest is: you can waste your time fighting death, but at the end you will have to face it, better to spend your lifetime with your loved ones, as long as it gets. Afterwards you’ll dissolve in the dust of universe, and at the end there’s nothing to be afraid of, you’ll be part of the universe. Till then spent this life with your loved ones

One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, and easily one of my absolute favorites. Great to see so many people commenting about how much they love it, too. I particularly love the element of the story that Tom will stop at absolutely nothing to find a cure to save his dying wife, it resonates so deeply with me, the idea that his love for her is so deep that he will impose his will on death itself for her.

If anyone is interested in a really great analysis of this movie, the channel "Like Stories of Old" does a fantastic breakdown of the many layers of this film. Ive watched this movie many times and thought I understood it well enough but was still a little confused with the alternate timelines however the channel I just mentioned gives a very thoughtful and intelligent explanation for it. Its truly a one of a kind movie. Sometimes you dont "see" something until you're ready to see it.

I don't know if I've ever seen another film so explicitly depict the Eastern concept of enlightenment, except for The Matrix. Which is a damn shame. The majority of existential films (with the exception of Terrence Malick's) are generally kind of/very depressing and even nihilistic, because they assume the human condition is fixed, which is a Western concept and not backed up by mountains of evidence from research into meditation and neuroscience.
