"The screen says its an unimplemented trap, but the error code is wrong. It's a system error". You can tell he programmed the voice demo when he knows that the error code is wrong, AND what the real cause of the problem is. All delivered in one line of dialogue. This movie is great.

This scene is a perfect example of turning something as potentially bland as a technical malfunction, into intense, entertaining and engaging cinema. There are so many aspects of the scene that all have to be executed perfected in order to make it work, and this scene does exactly that. The acting, writing, dialogue timing, character, sound design and background music, even the camera work works together so well which makes the scene work. Re-watch the scene and focus on each of these aspects individually. All of them are executed to perfection. That's my interpretation of why this scene works anyway

It's a nicely put together tense scene, couldn't help thinking the same thing!
@mskidi
@mskidi 5 жыл бұрын
Scene works because they bicker in fast pace with witty quotes and they've got tense music in the backround. Its like a good rap videoclip, tailor made for mass consumption by modern viewers with narrow attention spans. In reality Jobs looks nothing like the actual Jobs and doesnt behave at all like him. Jobs didnt deliver smart comebacks. He would just swear at people and most often than not end up crying uncontrollably when he got into arguments (look up Isaacsons' authorized biography of him). Winslet acts like some mother/guardian angel figure that her accent is a mess. The fat dude completes the trio belcanto of alternate versions of Sorkin barking at each other.
@gaberouse3351
@gaberouse3351 4 жыл бұрын
I think the scene is tense because of how important the technical malfunction is to the characters, especially Steve Jobs. The peripheral things, like the music, the writing, and the acting all serve the purpose of articulating the intensity of the scene and the emotions, but those things do not singlehandedly create the drama. Imagine if they were talking about Steve dropping a pen. Then, the scene would probably be stupid, even with perfect music, acting, and writing. Clearly, the technical malfunction (and fixing it) is very important to Steve, an important character, or there would be no drama to emphasize with those aspects of the scene.

Actually I think in the past Apple made some really good products, their monitors and systems have been stable and unique from a technical perspective. They have been the standard for graphic designers due to the quality of it. But that was in the 1990s. Today? You're absolutely right. Overpriced garbage that looks nice, but does only half of the things it claims and costs double as much like the competition.

I wish dialogues in movies/tv shows weren't this sharp. Nowadays everthing is on point, too perfect. You know...talk like people talk in real life. This kind of swift, sharp exchange of of sarcastic remarks hardly happens in real life, specially when its situations like this. It sounds nice however...that i admit.

It happened with Steve Jobs actually. Do you know his story? He was a prick and a perfectionist and this is in full display here. If anything, the sharp tones here work perfect to describe how Steve Jobs was, especially during his first time at Apple. That's the reason why he got kicked by his own company.

Real life speech is boring and terrible. Actually listen to how people talk and you’ll understand why that should never be in film or television. Even people known for writing “realistic dialogue” don’t do it 100% because it’s just so bad.

Yea, he was a master marketer and "re-packager" of technology. He didn't really invent anything. Even the whole idea for a Graphical User Interface (GUI) like MacOS and Windows, both Gates and Jobs got that idea from visiting Xerox's corporate campus back in the day and seeing they had one that they used internally. Then Gates/Jobs realized it could be repackaged, tweaked and sold to the consumer market on a mass scale.
