I lived in that area for two years while I went to grad school. Every time I drove through that tunnel, it made me feel alive. That moment when the narrow space opens up to a bridge over the water is one of the best things I've ever seen. I've lived in several states and in the UK for five years. But the Pittsburgh Bridge is still in the top 5 most beautiful things I've experienced. When I saw this movie, I instantly knew what bridge that was. It was incredible to see something I had experienced myself be captured so fully in a film.

The Perks is a masterpiece, and that scene is when I realized it. By the end, I was glad it didn't disappoint even once. One of the things that blew my mind was that it's not only brilliantly written and acted ; it's also gorgeous to watch. @@jessecaalba8527 what was your moment about??
@jessecaalba8527 Жыл бұрын
@@jason854656 6 years, man, time flies. I still think of it even today when I drove through the area. I was out with friends, it was highschool, Jr year, I had chosen to leave my family in one city to try something new after being in the same school system my entire life, and thus moved in with my grandad and enrolled into a school that was absolute culture shock in how different it all was. My old school had us prim and proper and living on anxiety, convincing us we were never going to be good enough unless we were the best. This new school was, for lack of a better term, pretty ghetto. And at first I was pretty frightened by how everyone just kinda took care of themselves and lived their life how they wanted. I spent a month In complete shut down silence dealing with the darkest time of my life and a million negative thoughts. I felt so foreign and lost. And then one day our high as the sky physics teacher threw us into group assignments, the classic egg drop project. And that's where I met my still best friend who helped me open up to other people around me. From there I made two friends, both a couple of guys who were kinda outsiders too. We ended up becoming the kind of friends that actually wanted to hang out outside of school, a first for me, and it was just so new and fun. Our first major outing we went to a football game and watched our school rough up another school, and I'm not a football gal but we were cheering and just all in for this game. Night fell and it was chilly and we were hungry, so we went to get some hot wings and just keep the party going. It was the first time I'd had a friend drive me around with them solely because they liked my company. And I was just so full of this overwhelming sense of what I've been missing, I thought nothing could top it. And then there was a red light, an empty long stretch of road, me and one of my friends in his car sat side by side to our other friend in his SUV. Just a pair of junky old cars and hype teens. We looked at each other and this unspoken understanding hit us all at once. This was a race. 1....2....3....green! The SUV peeled off ahead of us, it's powered engine just a little better than our own, but Matty and his car were nothing you should discredit. He asked me if I was okay with him going for it and I never said yes so fast in my life. Suddenly our little red neon was double digits and gaining on the suburban ahead of us, then side by side, and then - red light...or so it seemed....but the intersection was clear from all angles... The SUV slowed to stop Little red tho, she didn't even hesitate. Whoooosh Windows down, chain smokers "something just like this" blasting, the waving hill that sent us flying through the scenic street laid ahead of us lit by yellow street lights like an old nostalgic photo. And I felt my throat catch I felt tears in my eyes and an ache in my chest I was alive I was free And I was happy... Three things I didn't know I hadn't ever known until then. That street led to my home, where my friend stopped and told me he enjoyed hanging out with me, and I felt loved. I'd never had someone like that before. I said my goodbyes and I went inside and I just felt...whole. The next day we watched perks of being a wall flower in my film class, and this scene came up and I felt it all over again. And ever time I drive down that street the ghost of that moment lives on and I ride with myself, and with Matty, in that little red car.

When were EVEN OLDER we’ll look at THESE moments and think wow my twenties… And I hate it. I absolutely hate when adults would tell you you’re gonna miss being young stop wanting to grow up etc etc because it’s SO true and no matter what they say and the fact that they were YOU once it will never hit you. My nieces are in high school now beginning their teenage journeys and all they want is to get it over with to leave school school sucks boring etc and no matter what I say, oh I felt the same way you’ll regret it, enjoy it you’re only young once and before you know it it’s gone, I wish I could go back and relieve those moments, no matter what I say, it will NEVER hit them. Boom. Done.
