It's apparent he has no idea what the hell they're talking about. Kind of cool to learn what not to do, even if it's just a comedy about a guy poisoning guacamole in a foreign country. I've done it a couple times-- input into a convo I barely understand. It's rare, but I want to never do it at all, for the rest of my life. Some things just never lead to anything good. Interjecting into a convo you don't understand is one of those.

Most people in Hollywood are extremely disconnected from reality, have little to no worldly knowledge and experience, and a lot of times don't even care about people. I've heard countless stories of minorities doing casting and being treated like disposable stereotypes. In King of the Hill, Mike pulled from his real-life memories of people; the rest of it was a mix of brilliance and casting by him and his team. The documentary is amazing. He has a soul, unlike most of the industry.

I was in high school when I saw Office Space for the first time, and I loved it. I really enjoyed Mike Judge's humor. Now I'm in my early 30s, and I have worked for a couple of companies that were just like Initech: overmanaged, micro-managed, policies that contradicted each other, multiple bosses to reprimand your every misstep (or perceived misstep), high turnover, unstable, and on and on. Yes, this movie becomes more relevant the longer you have a big boy (or big girl) job. It also serves as a great example of how NOT to be if you find yourself in any level of management.

Like a lot of people in this comments section, I saw this movie when I was a teenager and just thought it was a funny flick. Wasn't until I graduated college and started working in a real office that I realized how terrifyingly true-to-life it was. The most unfortunate thing is that everyone's seen this movie but most of the people in Lumbergh's position don't see the similarities or take the hints on what not to do as a boss. The truth is lost on the people who need to learn from it the most.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched this. If I blew off steam the way Peter did in this scene someone at work would inevitably overhear it. Then they would tell the VP, and I would have an HR intervention to deal with. I'm not sure that has anything to do with our times or culture (not in my case, anyway). Having your name show up in a holiday tends to make it unfavorable. Although I wasn't teased as much about it. I do remember, though, my name coming up in a history book and any time the teacher said the historical person's name who shared my name, half the class would turn around to look at me as if they expected me to react in some stupid way.

What I really liked about this movie is that it contrasted office work life with blue-collar life (with Lawrence) and the service industry (with Joanna). All three have their crap they all put up with like how Lawrence talks about his 6AM starts and how Joanna has to put on a happy face at all times. It just goes to show that work is work. It sucks, the grass is always greener on the other side and all you can do is just make your income and enjoy life outside of it.

The lighting in this movie is so much better then other movies from 1999. It looks like a movie from nowadays. A lot of movies from back then used a grainy lighting, idk if anyone understands what I’m talking about.

I would actually prefer a cube vs this open office jargon we “seem” to love nowadays apparently. It’s like working at the tables in a high school cafeteria, where you have to find a place and “hotel” for the day.

I’m not sure which is worse. I don’t like either one. If an office is built correctly for cubicles it has sound mitigation so you can’t hear people talking in other cubicles. People can still sneak up on you though. Thank goodness I have my own office.
