I read the book last year and it was absolutely INSANE. THe movie is 100% accurate to the book and it was such a quick read for me, it was so thrilling to read along and how Katherine felt really osstracised from the rest of the town and aliienated because she had to fend for herself from such a young age. I think she even gets harrassed multiple times from the others kids everytime she visited the town. It was pretty sad, but Chase deserved it tho.

I honestly thought it was either Tate or Jumping because both of them noticed her bruised face and appeared very angry for her. • However, knowing nature and Chase’s character, Kya definitely had an advantage and motive to lure him towards his death. • In her own words, she was simply doing what she must to survive.

Something very important and special that maybe most people missed. Her sense of nature was that she was part of it, part of the 'the wilderness takes and gives, it kills yet it doesn't see it as something bad...' She felt so strong about it, that she was of the swamp herself, part of the flora and fauna that when she killed her boyfriend, she saw it as the natural course to take with no blame on her, as we read in her journal at the end of the movie. She was willing to go to prison than to say she was guilty of, mind you, not being part of the swamp and ITS laws. Of course she knew what she had done was wrong according to OTHER laws, but for her the laws of the swamp and the wilderness meant more for her so she understood her act against him as needed and justified. What a great story. I have watched it more than once even though I don't like crying due to some mental struggles, but I just can't help it.

Hi, I really recommend the book for unanswered questions! Catherine and Tate didn't have any children, and she believed she couldn't concenive. The 1 hour murder time-span would've been very tight, but she had expert knowledge of the moors and how to navigate them, so may have been able to do it. They mention in the book how active, and quick, the tide is and that nature may have destroyed the evidence, instead of the perpetrator doing it. I still don't understand why/how she would've chosen to return by bus (especially as it was her first time taking the bus, I believe) as that means she had intent, and that it wasn't a killing from self-defence (which would make more sense). Some questions left remaining and I personally wasn't a fan of the ending, but a very good read!

Keep in mind this was the 50's/60's. No fault divorce was not a thing. She would have to convince a judge that she was being harmed, and her children were at risk. Domestic violence was not taken nearly so seriously and maritial rape was also not considered a crime. Her children were not hers. In the event of a divorce she would liekly have lost custody of the children and she would have had no money to fight it.
