Amon and Tarrlok's story is so tragic and sad. They both wanted to escape their father's shadow so badly they ended up becoming just like him.

You can say one thing for certain about Korra, there antagonists are complex, sympathetic people. Ozai fulfilled his purpose as a challenge to the empathetic and wise Aang. Whose character centers around seeing the good in others so someone of unadulterated evil would best confront his morals and his mentality. Korra is a woman whose proven to be very much naive and confrontationally decisive by the start. However it is those very antagonists who have reasonings and valid ethical points that challenge her the most. She has to drop her guard, and her pride, to better understand her role as a Uniter. She has to put herself in the shoes of others and learn even from extremists to better the world. Amon, Kuvira, Zaheer, and even Tarlok challenge her time and time again on her identity, her morality, and her fighting spirit. And that’s why I like the show. Thank you for reading.

@violetraven8323
@violetraven8323 4 жыл бұрын
Gay Wolf Season 1 isn’t the best I’ll admit, and she is Mary Sue by that point. But the writers fix that problem in the season right after it and that flaw of the show was mostly because the creators were unaware of wether they would be receiving more seasons. So I partly agree but that’s an issue addressed and resolved right after the fact. Ex:She released spirits into the world and air-bending returned, however Zaheer got air-bending powers which allowed him to break out of prison and reform his group. So she most certainly faces consequences for her actions.

All the villains are really shallow representations of various ideologies, with the exception of Kuvira who’s just Ozai but as a metal bender. Zaheer is an anarchist and anyone who isn’t a 14 year old or just a complete moron understands why anarchism is never viable or conducive for a functional society. Amon is a vaguely communist revolutionary who just touts crap about equality without a clear goal.

What about the line Amon says to Mako of “it is almost a shame to take the bending of someone so talented”? I’m just wondering what you think of that line. Also- I saw Amon’s crying at the end as sadness and reflection looking back at what he had become. And what about whether at the end Amon was trying to restart his mission somewhere else (equalist weapons still in the car) or truly escaping?
@StopJerkingOff
@StopJerkingOff 4 жыл бұрын
Amon always scared me more than ozai did. I mean he shook off makos lightening point blank like it was nothing when it was pretty much implied that if aang had redirected his lightining towards ozai it would had killed him. Not to mention he took down many elite benders with out bending at all.
@thatoneguy5343
@thatoneguy5343 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason they said in the original that Aang would’ve killed Ozai had he decided to redirect his lightning towards him was Sozin’s Comet amplified Ozai’s firebending including his lightning, so a comet powered lightning bolt would’ve definitely killed Ozai. Mako shot Amon with regular lightning, which Amon can survive.

Amons is my favorite major antagonist in the avatar universe! He’s extremely threatening yet you also have a good understanding of his goals and themes. His power and even his army being a good inverse to the avatar and other bending protagonists. He wasn’t right but he certainly had some points! I don’t know if its true, but i’ve heard amon is both a deadly pressure point in one langiage, and also means equal or maybe zero in another.

She just sort of a feels like a really odd final boss after the other three major antagonists have been dealt with.

Amon also means the demon of wrath in some other language (demons are deceivers), which explains his major tools to maintain or start his revolution which were theft (stealing people's natural bending away), deception (deceive benders into thinking bending is evil when in fact it's not, because nature has managed to find balance with non-benders coexisting with benders which means everyone is already equal, and to deceive them about his actual identity) and sowing anger and wrath (make non-benders slowly believe that bending is evil by stating historical events of wars beginning with bending, publically justifying his theft by starting with taking the bending of criminal benders and slowly advancing to normal benders through sowing anger). This nickname, Amon, perfectly fits Noatak and no wonder why he had picked it as an alias.

Personally i don't see him as a bad person, just a person that did bad things. And It's possible to not be evil but do things that are questionable. He had a clear motive and a understandable reason why, he just went about it all wrong. There are tons of villains in Avatar that are villains but not bad people. Amon, Ty Lee, Mai, the mechanist, freedom fighters. He was blinded by the negatives of bending and took it too far. Honestly makes a better villain

I wouldn’t really look at it as equality, because he was a bender himself and wanted to take everyone else’s bending, that’s being a hypocrite. In my opinion, zaheer was the one who I never really saw as a villain, he wanted freedom from the tyrannical rule of leaders
@Supreme_Goldfish
@Supreme_Goldfish 2 жыл бұрын
I think Amon was the only realistic to achieve equality for non-benders. If he couldn't take away people's bending, his only other option would be to kill all benders, and their children. If Amon really was a non-bender, he would become a genocidal maniac like the Nazis. Amon is the lesser evil, he's the only way to get equality without murdering every bender in the world. I think he was right, but with him gone, there may never be true equality for non-benders without mass murder. I don't know about you, but Amon and Equalism might get me to write some fan fiction, because of how right he is.
@rzxwm10
@rzxwm10 2 жыл бұрын
He would be a hypocrite if he didn't surrender his own bending once he sealed everyone else's. He is a fraud, though, because he claimed to not be a bender.
@climbingamountain86
@climbingamountain86 9 ай бұрын
I think Amon was deluded and a deceiver. People are born with bending so by stealing it, Amon is battling with nature itself, and that pretty much makes him evil. At the beginning, when he was 14. I believe he truly wanted equality back then but now he's just using equality as an excuse. However, in the end he got humbled when Korra destroyed his revolution. Amon had dug a pit into his own downfall and when the truth was revealed, everything he had worked on fell because of himself. That also means he humbled himself and he reunited with lost character traits but that's just my own assumption. He saw himself for who he truly is, someone who's capable of losing (before it was revealed that he saw himself as someone more powerful when he said to Mako "Impressive. No one has gotten the better of me like that.") and that made his original self show when he wanted him and his brother to live a new life once again. He was redeemed in the end. Amon also means the demon of wrath in some language (demons are deceivers), which explains his major tools to maintain or start his revolution which were theft (stealing people's natural bending away), deception (deceive benders into thinking bending is evil when in fact it's not, because nature has managed to find balance with non-benders coexisting with benders which means everyone is already equal, and to deceive them about his actual identity) and sowing anger and wrath (make non-benders slowly believe that bending is evil by stating historical events of wars beginning with bending, publically justifying his theft by starting with taking the bending of criminal benders and slowly advancing to normal benders through sowing anger). This nickname, Amon, perfectly fits Noatak and no wonder why he had picked it as an alias. In my opinion, Zaheer was someone who was truly misunderstood, and he simply didn't fit in this world therefore he was seen as a villain (even though he started becoming a villain at some point, eventually when he was jailed he had the opportunity to continue his quest for true freedom and spirituality and that's a gain for him.) Amon is my favorite. He truly had a good start, and the core character traits that he has are fairness and humility which are what actually shaped him. He used to be humble and grounded when he was young, that's why he didn't let his father's compliments get to him, which is also what made him succeed in many areas. Personally, I don't believe his father shaped him because when he lost all his prideful work, he got humbled and reunited with his brother and his core character traits. However, Yakone had still shame in him, because only through shame somebody changes his whole identity even as to make plastic surgery. Which is also why Yakone's emotions of revenge resurfaced once again. When he started a family, they already existed but were simply buried. Noatak, however, only wanted to escape with his brother in the end, he had already won over the shame through humility. (Just like Uncle Iroh had once said "True humility is the only antidote to shame".) So Noatak got redeemed.

I have to disagree with calling Amon "Good" or "kind-hearted". He and what made him into the fanatical revolutionist he became are both complex, interesting, and even sympathetic. I put him in much the same category as Snape: not a saint (he attacked and victimized innocent people) nor is he really a devil (he truly thought he was doing the right thing and removing what he believed was the source of evil in the world).

Amon takes away most of the blood so they can't bend, the reason why no one can't feel the blood loss is because bloodbenders makes the blood feel untouched when it really has been touched. Amon takes more precision in his father's shape than Tarrlok so, he has the side of when anyone tries to bloodbend his side of his bending can't be touched. Even by the Avatar, however the avatar's stream of blood that connects the spiritual energy, has a lot of blood due to the fact they bend every element, bloodbenders can take most of there spiritual blood away. But, there spiritual energy helps them to restore there bending to the lost of the blood.

Quick question to anyone that can answer : How come Yakone and his sons could bloodbend and without the full moon ? Was it ever explained ? Amon was the only villain that had a goal, purpose, backstory, and overall good character depth. Unalaaq was an unnecessary villain, i agree we did get Avatar Wan's story, but we should've gotten that WITHOUT A villain, and Zaheer and Kuvira in my opinion were really bad.
@DCUEmp_prinzy
@DCUEmp_prinzy 4 жыл бұрын
Why because both zaheer and kuvira didn't die all villains except unalaq in LoK had motives that wasn't just power driven, unalaq wanted the spirits cuz he wanted power, zaheer wanted freedom from monarchy, to kill all world leaders because he felt the monarchy was what was wrong in their world which he kinda was right, he used Sozin as an example and I could agree and understand and he felt the avatar was one of those ppl who will oppose that vision so he wanted to end her so that vision could exist, kuvira was born out of zaheer's own actions wanting to unite her nation at any cost even if it meant manipulating and threatening some to unite her nation, her goal was understandable if not bolin would not have signed up for that. All legend of korra antagonists had a clear visions of what they wanted
@ArcRogerr
@ArcRogerr 4 жыл бұрын
Zaheer and Kuvira felt like the most coherent villains, if nothing else. While I wouldn't say Unalaq was unnecessary per se, he was certainly underwhelming. He was hardly a character at all and kinda just ended up a mustache-twirling flunky for Vaatu halfway through the season. Any agency he had as a character disappeared, rendering him more or less a plot device in service of Vaatu. Then there's Amon who's honestly... a bit of a mixed bag for me. I really enjoyed him as a villain... up until the Noatak reveal. I think it would have been far more interesting and compelling if the writers had simply kept him a genuine non-bender. Instead he just turned out to be a power-hungry hypocrite with a backstory that only raises more questions than it answers. The character had so much potential that I feel was wasted.

Even roku, talking about him and his friendship with sozin and sozin's goals. Put the idea they are now Ozai's goal. Finally when you see him its not as epic. You had inderect ways of knowing he was evil. Which was the intention. The story was the heros preparing for a fight vs someone they and we know little about, instead of a villain being fleshed out in the regular way. He is fleshed out, with character development. Why did he see to himself to ally with basically the avatar equivalent of the devil? None are actually explained. It comes off as telling but not showing anything. If you ask me, Amon is the perfect example of an anti-villain. And I really wished that the writers kept him around for the later seasons. I would have loved him become a "Enemy of my enemy" type character who sometimes helps team avatar just because. He was basically right when he said bending caused nothing but trouble. Korra's uncle, Zahir, and Kuvira all used their bending in some way to gain power or reign terror. Meanwhile Amon was using his bending to "equalize" everyone by taking away if not blocking people's bending for mostly good. I do think he believed in his cause and probably saw his own abilities as a "cursed" gift.

No, I think Amon at some point lost himself in the process and his original cause of "equality" because he used his bending to take people's bending away. That's a difficult thing to do, to believe bending is evil and use it throughout the years to take others' bending away, that ought to make Amon see himself as more powerful in the process. But even though Amon is my favourite, I think that Zaheer was the one who didn't want power because he was an anarchist. I believe Zaheer was misunderstood and that he didn't belong in this world and therefore he is seen as a villain (even though he later started becoming a villain, he eventually got humbled as well and continued his journey to absolute spirituality and freedom in his prison cell, which was a gain for him). Amon, or maybe Noatak, got humbled too. At the start he was battling with nature itself because people are born with bending so by taking it away and considering it evil, he had simply deluded himself and deceived non-benders. He sought anger and wrath in them and began stealing criminals' bending away to publically justify his theft. Deception and sowing anger were Amon's main tools for his revolution as he also used them for his made up story about the firebender killing his family. But later in the end, as Uncle Iroh had once said "True humility is the only antidote to shame", Noatak humbled himself after realising his entire work was lost, and he reunited with his original character traits and desires, which was to leave with his younger brother who he loved most and begin a new life. He got redeemed.
