Everything that follows is Ethan saying to himself, "I am not like Jim Phelps, I will not end up like Jim Phelps." The first movie really explains the whole series.

Ive seen the Jackie Chan film....its really really bad Its suppose to be a sequel to The Myth but has almost zero connection to it....the scenes set in the past are OK but all of the modern scenes are god awful
