The Fall Guy was directed by David Leitch, an actual Hollywood stunt actor turned action film director. This film was sort of a love letter to stunt performers

Not so much. If any film can claim that, it's Hooper, which starred Burt Reynolds and was directed by Hal Needham - two former stuntmen who had a lot more balls than anyone involved with this picture.

@@Pocketkid2Oh, I didn’t say that. I totally believe he was a stuntman. They pretty much forced that fact down our throats in all the promos and press interviews. I just don’t think it’s as much of a “love letter” as, say, Hooper, though I saw the director call it that in most of his interviews (honestly, I think he was mimicking Tom Cruise, who kept calling Maverick a “love letter to aviation”). I’ve seen his films, own a few. Some were overrated, like Atomic Blonde, some were fun. I enjoyed Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw, though totally over the top, had some funny moments. Bullet Train, though, was pure DEI crap - and this whole trend of turning your leading action hero into a whimpering emotional puss is garbage. Mostly, though, I think he’s another Michael Bay wannabe who makes too many changes on the fly to appease his stars. And I don’t think being a former stuntman makes you any better at directing action. 10 years from now, a lot of David Leitch’s films will have been forgotten, whereas Die Hard will continue to be a Christmas classic, lol. But, if Hollywood wants to keep throwing money at him, more power to him.

But did they fix the screenplay..? Liked the actors and some moments in the film, but what a missed opportunity. The problem with David Leitch is he's a total pushover. "Make Jody a girl boss director instead of stunt woman? Sounds great! Oh, but she still knows how to fight and can kick Colt's ass? Why not?! In fact, while we're at it, let's have the 90 pound party girl actress kick his ass, too! Even better! Turn Colt into a whimpering man-baby between fight scenes (much like Brad Pitt in Bullet Train)? You got it! Let our lead villian have a total change of heart even though just 5 minutes earlier he was trying to burn Colt alive? Makes perfect sense!" If this film had stuck more to the general story of the TV show - maybe had Colt hideaway at some ranch run by his mentor, the original Colt Severs, after his accident instead of parking cars - and had Jody be a hot-but-tough stunt woman instead of an older, totally unsexy, baggy-ass pants wearing Greta Gerwig clone (Emily Blunt has been 10 times hotter in other films, btw) - and had Colt at least be on the path to becoming a bounty hunter - I think this film would've made more money... and more sense They spent a shit-ton of money just for "meh."

The movie in theaters was an editing botch. A full twenty minutes has been edited back in for the "Extended Cut." The two are vastly different, with many reviewers saying, "Skip the theatrical version altogether."
