Plot : Would-be artist Ben (Sean Biggerstaff) realizes he has an extraordinary way of dealing with the tedium of his dead-end job stocking shelves at a store - he has acquired the ability to halt time and explore the world while the rest of the earth's population remains frozen in place. I believe the concept came from the book "Fermata" by Nicholsen Baker, published in 1994. Wonderful story. In the book the main character Arno is a stenographer, someone who types out audio tapes dictated by executives. A fermata is a musical term, denoting a pause.

"Fermata" is a terrific and hilarious book. I like most of Baker's stuff, but this might be my favorite of his. I haven't seen this movie but if it is based on, or ripped off from Fermata, I am sure it is a lame reproduction.

Actually the movie is quite lovely. The artistic representation of love (not lust as some naive people see it), is depicted beautifully. Bonus is the fine sketches at the gallery. Really excellent. Although as KissKitty points out that its against the modesty of women as they have in no way given consent, I only applauded the artistic representation and the fact that all his sketches depicted his crush/love interest so i took the other women as an extension of the fascinating female form as a whole. Sorry to be naïve. But the film is great as an art work. (After watching again)The last few moments where Ben defines how to find love, gives basis to the point that as an artist, he is free from obsessions of normalcy. And it adds to the beauty of the fact that beauty is indomitable and untarnished love is beauty personified.

Man it would be really nice to pause time...I'd love to sit on top of a "moving" car and look at the sky or go somewhere nobody else it allowed and just hang out for a bit. The movie being reviewed is "Cashback" released in 2006. I watched this movie on the advice of a friend and found it to be a lot better than I expected it to be. Given some of the characters and scenes you might think that this is just some stupid “Teen coming of age” flick but it was filmed with surprisingly generous amounts of sensitivity and refinement. Definitely worth a look
