Had a roomy in uni who deliberately kept me awake because I worked nights and she wanted me up in the day so her friends could better visit (Wanted me to quit, but my Daddy unlike hers was dead and I was 18 and putting my own behind through school). At night she'd (illegally by uni rules) have her boyfriend sleeping in her bed with her. She would do things like scream at me if I tried to study with even a pinpoint of light as per a mini flashlight, run her hair dryer in my face, spill soda on my bed, went on and on. I could not sleep other than I THINK moments of micro sleep for two weeks. Managed 30 hour stints online later in life, but MAN that was hard. When I finally got out of the situation for a day I went to a friend's apartment and crashed face first on his couch for almost 24 hours. Now I am older and far FAR more easily exhausted. Prepares to nap.

​@jonmel Adding on to this basically Josh (showrunner) had left Rooster Teeth (the production company for the show) and Josh said that RT determined it was too expensive to keep making so they cancelled it. Josh said it would require outside funding to make a season 3 (there's 2 seasons, this recap only covers season 1) but most people thought that would be unlikely bc it requires another company picking it up which would be appreciated but a lot of people thought that that would never happen since it requires Rooster Teeth more or less allowing another company to take their show. And apparently the TV run didn't do as well as the web show run so eventually it just got forgotten about so at this point there's no use in picking up the show since it's been a few years (season 2 ended in 2017 I believe). But honestly I kinda like how the first season ended cause while it is a cliffhanger its at least a cliffhanger you can live with and you can make your own conclusions from it. It isn't a cliffhanger like some shows where its like a "will they/won't they" situation or a character is literally about to die before the episode ends. This one you can just make your own conclusions and you could technically live without knowing the true ending. Like who knows, maybe this was a government experiment and that's why the Marine was safe. Maybe this was all a collective dream by the characters. You could do whatever you want with it. It's like a soft cliffhanger.

I once stayed up for 68 hours. By the 67th hour light would follow it self. It felt like someone was always standing behind me and that someone was myself somehow. I was so tired I couldn’t sleep. At some point I fell asleep without meaning to or realizing and slept for 28 hours. Never again.

I mentally destroyed myself in December of 2019. My grandma died that month, I deprived myself of sleep so much I was falling asleep walking in Walmart. The stress and sadness of my grandma dying was just a lot on my mind. I have never been that tired before or since. It was fucking crazy.

People with familial insomnia go months or years But it's definitely not long enough to raise kids to a survive alone age or the age of them having kids of their own. So without a cure if you could never sleep again, humanity would 100% go extinct.

I’ve stayed awake for 5 days in a row due to a sleeping problem I had a few years ago just couldn’t get comfortable or sleep. During the 3rd day I had started getting hallucinations and there no joke. My friend walked into my room and asked me if I needed anything, and I had a entire conversation with him, and then I noticed something was a bit off about him like I just couldn’t really make out the details on his face, I stood up and he was gone within an instant. I just remember having this very weird and eerie feeling like an impending doom.

Realistically speaking, people will die if they don't sleep for certain amount of time. Your brain needs rest to recharge. Even machines can't run 24/7 non-stop and it will eventually break after awhile. That's why data center often requires maintenance, because they have to swap out hard drive since it dies out after few years. I remember staying up for almost 4 days straight when I was a teenager playing video games during summer vacation, and then I was falling asleep on the keyboard and told my friend i had to go to sleep because I couldn't stay awake. Then I slept for 24 hours straight and woke up a day later and thought it was 6am in the morning, but it was 6pm. I'm never doing that again. Even if I can now, it's a terrible experience.

I had been awake for 2 days straight without sleeping during camping at my uncle's universities teacher house, and as a person who always been sleepy head and waking up 2 days straight without rest make me a headache and hallunications.. So after the day 2, I've been going crazy like shouting at nowhere such as cursing at the imaginary people bcs of hallunication, but luckily my friend who comfort me and they put me to sleep.. The reason why I don't go to sleep for 2 days is bcs I had job for to look after the camp fire.. Not only me but 3-4 people need to look after the fire. But those three people they don't have any hallunication like i did,, this is bcs they already used to sleep late like at 2am or 4am.. So the next thing I knew after I woke up is at my tent.. Bcs I fell asleep my friend's shoulder who been helping comforting me and put me to sleep.. So after that incident they never gave me a job like that To me lol.. Hallunication is super scary though..

@_BMJ_, your group did a piss poor job with the fire is what I’ve gathered from your story. I can easily make a fire that will burn for 12 hours unattended. You also should dig a trench around the boundaries of the fire (also putting rocks around helps if they’re available) and clear the leaves and rubbish from the ground around your campsite. There is no reason that 3-5 people would be required to monitor a camp fire.

Just off the top of my head, there is a group who knew it was going to happen and had chips(in their brains) to prevent the sleep from killing them. There is also a guy in the desert(Utah?) who figured out a specific aurora borealis would block the death, so he had a cult like camp where he calculated when it was safe to sleep. He gets attacked by the brain chip group and they kill him and Sam. And that is the end. They had to kill off Sam because filming was taking a long time and the actor was literally growing up out of the role.

I’m a veteran and when I was deployed to Iraq I was awake for something like 48 hours. There was a good reason, but I fell asleep sitting on the back of a MRAP and my commander effectively ordered me to go to my CHU and sleep. Woke up a few hours later because the generator went down and my AC shut off. I didn’t hallucinate, but staying awake that long is extremely difficult.

there was a tv show a while back, early 2004 (called shattered) it was just like the show big brother but instead contestants were challenged without sleep, the longest to go without sleep wins the pot and the catch was that any contestant which falls asleep the cash pot gets smaller. Anyhow the show went exactly how you would expect, after 4 days it became as dull as dishwater, everyone became lethargic, non responsive, not entertaining. They only made one season of the show for good reason. Sleep deprived shows are the worst.

I’ve done some ‘things’ in the past that made me stay awake for long periods. Almost five days was the longest stretch without sleep. By late on day three the hallucinations were nuts and hearing music from the steady hum of a fan or refrigerator compressor was also crazy. I’m very glad I got my life in order twenty years ago after struggling for almost eight months otherwise I might not be here to comment on this rather subpar looking movie/show.

Taking DayQuil kept me up for three days! By the time I realized it was taking my ability to sleep away I was convinced the people in my television were watching me watch them! I called my mom to tell her what was happening because I was afraid I was never going to sleep again! I will NEVER take a "day" cold medicine again! (If I can help it!) 😢

Is this a film adaptation of the book Fiend? Because that book is fucked. Guy on a methamphetamine binge already awake for days looks out the window to see a little girl eating a dog and thinks it's the meth only to find out if you fall asleep you become a zombie not just dead. And then comes the descent into madness.
