The Plywood also provided excellent artificial gravity. But the tech looks closer to the "near future" 2001 than Star Wars/Star Trek. Anyway, the plywood doesn't bother me. The low-budget Dr. Who and other low-budget 1960s-70s science fiction series did wonders with cheap sets.

The remaining female is the only survivor because the last remaining male sacrifices himself for her. Why is not ever the female sacrifices herself for the male? Because, like the rest of this trite and predictable movie, the author can't seem to even conceive of that. He/she just writes it the exact same way as nearly all the other have. Complete with 2 or (or more) times males to be slaughtered and one of the few females surviving. Often by a male sacrificing himself.
