As never having seen an adaptation before I went in as a newbie and I loved it. Great review.

Thanks! You chose a good version as your first of this adaptation!

I noticed the time too. I understand why it took so long though.

Definitely. I think the story needed it...and I really like this adaptation.

I've passed on the prior film adaptations... I will give this version a try, Meryl Streep helps with my decision!

You're so lucky, getting to see it a week early! Also, I've seen 3 adaptations and watched clips from the ones predating 1994. I haven't seen Gerwig's yet, but so far the 1994 version is the best in my opinion. The grittiness of the film makes it mirror real like more than the versions with bright colors or creamy pastels. Also, the fact that the 1994 version of Laurie flat out says that he always knew that he belonged in the March family and that he was determined to marry one of the March sisters (whoever was available) takes the cake for me.

I hope you enjoy it! Up until this viewing, the 1994 version was my favorite...but there is a new champion! :-)

I had zero interest in seeing Lady Bird and Little Women however after checking out Lady Bird which is a masterpiece I had to watch Little Women. Wow another masterpiece I couldn't believe it.

Did they all huddle together and moan sympathetically in unison. I might have to read the book before watching. It's one of those titles that you need to read like a Shakespeare play or a Dickens novel. What's the maniacal laugh reference from?
@MoviesAndMunchies5 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, luckily no synchronized moaning or chanting! Maniacal laugh is from 2011's 'The Muppets'. I don't think you need to have read the book at all to understand what's going on, or to even appreciate the story. Honestly, I haven't read the book either.

Do I have need to read the books or can I go in not knowing anything about the characters
@MoviesAndMunchies5 жыл бұрын
You don't need to read the book to enjoy this. The characters are developed well, as is the story on-screen.

Could u start doing movie commentary of remakes? That could be another cool niche for u.
@MoviesAndMunchies5 жыл бұрын
That's a great thought! I've tossed around doing a bunch of older films too...so it's not just recent releases...now to find the time :-)

@@MoviesAndMunchies u could do one show where u do a commentary on the origjnal and the new version (ex. Jacobs ladder is on netflix and prime). U could also do african american classics that white people dont know are classics. Ive found in middle age that our cinema isnt respected by white america. One thing i respected about ebert is that he got it and respected our cinema

@@ertfgghhhh That's a really great suggestion about African American cinema. I think everyone should be exposed to all types of cultures so we can get better insight into others' lives and backgrounds.

Really enjoyed the review! Little Women iS My FAVORITE All Time Movie... For so many reasons... I am not much on remakes ... especially if the movie somehow really moved you or is nostalgic for you .. Winona Ryder Susan Sarandon .. all the cast .. made the movie so wholesome and moving... the cast just really connected to me... But I might I mean MIGHT LOLLL watch this one who knows thanks for the review just found your channel when I saw Little Women I had to click

I think at the end here you might be talking about Jo and Laurie dancing being silly in the 1994 version I am not sure if they did that same scene in this new one...... but That is one of my favorite scenes where Laurie & Jo are being so silly dancing in like a parlor not sure if that's what your talking about.... LOLLL I know every single scene to the 1994 Little Women I have probably watched it 50 times LOLLL
@MoviesAndMunchies4 жыл бұрын
It's been a long time since I've seen the 1994 version, but when I was talking about them dancing it was for Greta Gerwig's version and it was awesome to watch the characters just have fun!

Lord, I've lost count. I still love the 1933, Katherine Hepburn-as Jo version best, I think, although the Winona Ryder-as Jo in the 1994 version was good, too. (Just a small note: I miss the books on your shelves. All those little black eyes staring back are a bit disconcerting.) :)
@MoviesAndMunchies5 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the Kate Hepburn version, but will have to check it out as I've heard good things. I do like the Winona version too, but this fresh feel was a great one to see...especially since I didn't think it should have been made again. :-) The books may come back...we're purging and reorganizing...but my Funkos were taking over a different shelf to the point where they were on top of each other and falling off.
@curiousworld79125 жыл бұрын
@@MoviesAndMunchies I think the Hepburn version is the earliest one, unless there's a silent version. And, yes, I didn't see that it necessarily needed to be remade 50 times, either. But, I'll probably give this one a look. Greta Gerwig is a fine director. (I hope I didn't offend with my remark about your Funkos, it's just all. those. eyes...) :)
@MoviesAndMunchies5 жыл бұрын
@@curiousworld7912 Oh no, you didn't offend at all! My wife and I actually had a discussion about it when we were considering changing the shelf...I hadn't thought about the eyes though LOL! The room I record in is also our den (and filled with books, games and video game consoles) so the space is limited and we are constantly trying to figure out the best use for it - while still allowing me to record there :-)
@curiousworld79125 жыл бұрын
@@MoviesAndMunchies I'm glad I didn't offend you. :) And, I understand limited space - I live in a 950 sq. ft. house, and have over 3000 books, along with all the family 'treasures' I've ended up with and all my personal collections - including a lot of religious iconography. My kid's godfather refers to my house as 'the temple of the sacred and the profane'. :)
