Ripley being by the book and sticking to protocols here may not be a heroic trait, it can also come across as strict and unflexible, which is what a lot of people dislike in real life, making her seem unlikable, but that's actually the safest decision and what a sensible person would do. Too bad Ash worked against her will and let them all in, which seems to be a decent, human act in saving Kane by letting his friends in, making him look more like a good guy, but really it's his master plan in getting the xenomorph on board. This is truly a great play of good and evil dynamic in the story, especially upon first viewing, at this point we don't know who the real main character is (Ripley), and who we really should root for.

@MrJeremyJay Yeah the whole plan was very bizzare, in Alien they sent a mining crew without any clear agenda. Then in Aliens they played the long game, with terraforming the atmosphere for years and colonists and sent some marines to rescue them and when you really look at it you'd be like 'Why?' They could have just sent a Special Project salvage crew the whole time 😂 Will find out what kind of crazy elaborate plan they have in Romulus soon as well.

Yes I agree. I wonder if it would have changed anything, because Ripley wasn't saying they should eject Kane into space or anything but rather a 24 hours quarantine. The facehugger would have come off, Kane wakes up, possibly understanding why he is isolated from the rest, and following the logic of the movie, it all depends on whether the alien bursts out before or after the quarantine period is over. Strictly speaking, he should have remained isolated after waking up but then again there would be no movie in that case.

Ash overrules Ripley's quarantine order, then blatantly ignores Parker's "Why don't you guys just freeze him?" Clearly the company needed an inside man. Ash was one step ahead of all of them. One of the great movie villains

Ash's true nature is perfectly illustrated in the lab scene later. He doesn't like Ripley, condescend's to her, treats her like a child and then essentially threatens her with his tone and body language. He treats Parker and Brett like morons who should shut up and he kisses Dallas' ass because he's Captain. Ash dislikes Ripley BECAUSE she's a woman, it's clear in his interaction with her. It's not just Company business. It's a disturbing feature of his AI that he deems confident working class women and blue collars beneath contempt (especially as a 'superior being'), while a nice submissive girl like Lambert is fine with Ash because she's weak and will do as she's told. Ash opened the door because it's what the Company told him to do, but also because he wasn't going to let some woman tell him what not to do.

0:59 Helmet was already cut before they put on the cutter! Love it you can see these goofs in 4K, they thought audiences wouldn't notice. I always love how the helmet just gets grabbed and split open into two, like two halves of a watermelon 1:22 😆

can you make sure that the sound/audio are set to stereo mode when you render the video for the upcoming episodes? Kinda annoying to hear stuff like around 0:33 in 5.1 surround sound when you are wearing headphones. Only coming sound from 1 side of the ear you know. Hehe

It has been decades since I read the Alan Dean Foster novelization but I remember that the facehugger had the ability to melt a hole through the helmet glass using a "detuned" version of its acid blood. Like acid based saliva. Just enough to melt the glass but not enough to kill the prospective host. This is never made clear on the screen.

Yeah it troubled me too. If the acid melted the glass, for sure it would've melted Kane's face too. But his face was ok as we see later. A bit of a plot hole, but forgiveable😅

Alien 1979 upscaled to 4K from the Blu-ray version, with no DNR used. Edited and color graded in HDR and Dolby Vision. Although KZbin currently doesn't support Dolby Vision, the video is HDR compatible.
