This is my favorite book and I’m finally one of the douchebags criticizing a trailer on KZbin... I understand Hollywood needs charming performances to sell movies, but you can tell from the trailer that they failed the biggest lesson and title of the book. SPOILER ALERT: Lin in a hardened criminal who lost his family, health, and freedom to heroin, then knife fights for his life in a 1970s Australian prison with murderers and rapists before escaping with an extension cord from the roof. His face is hardened and mean and described as “do not fuck with me”. He is not a man of love/god. When he is eventually taken to a small village (Prabaker’s parents), where nobody has ever seen a hardened criminal before, where they do not recognize what it is to wear “do not fuck with me” on your face, they name him Shantaram (man of god/peace). This is the moment his identity breaks and he begins to heal. I’m sobbing writing this because I can relate to being a hardened person from a fucked up life, that was fortunate enough to experience a profound moment that seeded change. To pull off this message, Charlie would have needed to be directed as a hardened heroine criminal biker gangster in the first half of this film and trailer. But he looks like he’s about to steal your girl instead. Fucking Hollywood with all the sexy and no soul.

I got the same impression, man I hope it's deeper than the trailer makes it out. I can't expect it to be anywhere as profound as the book but I can hope a little bit. I found the book just as I found sobriety, it couldn't have come at a better time. Deeply special story.
@freudsilver30972 жыл бұрын
I think you got something wrong here. Shantaram means man of peace, the name was not given to him by the slum people, they called him a doctor. The name was given to him by Prabhakar's mother when he visits his village.
@MorganRobertsActor2 жыл бұрын

It's very sad that they didn't pick up after season 1. To be honest I never even knew this series was made until now, in 2023 by chance. I never saw advertising for it anywhere otherwise I would have watched it in 2022 when it aired. (Aussie): Charlie is English and I think despite his best efforts the accent falls into a Northern English cadence instead of Australian. He hits select Aussie-isms but the overall melody sounds like one of The Beatles after a night of smoking cigarettes. He’s doing his best to act through it though.

the trailer was good though, can't argue with that... but if the producers are doing a movie based on India, cant they pick some Indian people atleast... why you always go for Indian-british or Indian-americans... FYI - there are dozen of film industry in India too... where the actors have far better acting skills and they speak english... just for namesake and to get views you will pick some Indians who are not even Indian... gosh that pisses me off... please get some real Indian people who knows what India is... those morons whom you take in you film, cant even talk Hindi properly... we need to watch 3-5 times on repeat just to understand what he/she is saying in hindi...
