반가워요.❤❤ 저는 제 나이 마흔에 미국에 왔어요. 아이들의 교육을 위해서 왔어요. 한국에서 전 아이들 학원을 안보낸 일인이거든요. 미국 왔을때 아이들은 영어 한마디도 못했지만 학교에서 다 Esol 로 육개월만에 Esol 끝마칠 수 있었어요. 열심히 했죠. 쉬운수학이였지만 언어가 이해가 안가니 풀을 수가 없어서 밤 늦게까지 숙제를 같이 했었더랍니다. 지금은 18년이 지나고 아이들은 대학원까지 다 졸업하고 그 힘들다던 의대도 가고 다들 잘 커주었죠. 하지만 미국서 살면서 이 나라가 내나라가 아니고 이방인이라는 생각은 변함이 없어요. 미국사람들은 말은 안하지만 여러가지로 제 스스로 이방인이란 생각을 떨쳐버릴수가 없죠. 언젠가 떠나야한다는 생각…그러나 자식이 여기 있어서 떠나지도 못하고 ㅎㅎ 그렇습니다. 레이씨도 한국에 살면서 저랑 똑같은 감정을 느꼇을거에요. 응원합니다 레이와 진을 😊😊 레이씨 발음이 귀에 쏙쏙 정말 좋습니다. 안들리는 단어가 없을정도로 정확하게 또박또박 깔끔하게 들려서 넘 좋아요. ❤❤

Korea is a wonderful place to live if you have financial freedom. In the last 10 years LA has been unbearable in terms cost of living and super progressive policies that perpetuate those cost of living. If you guys ever visit LA - we live in Venice area and my wife and I would love to host. We have a guest house in the back.

항상 레이진 영상볼때마다 미국갈준비한다고 그건 장모님 병환이있어서그런거라고 알고있었는데 장모님 돌아가셔서 마음이아팠지만 그래도 장모님 돌아가시기직전에 미국에 가셔서 연락없이 장모님 깜짝이벤트해서 다행이라고 생각합니다 어느누구나 부모님은 돌아가십니다 그아픔이 당장은 씻을수없이 아프지만 시간이지나면 점점 그아픔이 줄어들더라고요 신이주신 가장큰 축복이 망각이라고 합니다 저또한 아버지돌아가시고 눈물한번 흘린적없는 상남자였지만 돌아가시고나니 몇년을 남몰래 눈물과 슬픔 회한속에 힘들었지만 10년이 지나니 점점 잊혀지더라고요 레이님 어머님돌아가셨을때 같이아파했던 진님의 그눈물이 잊고있다가도 가끔 생각이납니다 두분은 분명 서로의 아픔을 진심으로 위로하시는게 느껴지는 커플이신만큼 꼭 성공하시길 먼 고국에서 응원하겠습니다

저는 미국에서 가장 큰 단점이 의료비 인것 같아요... 2007년에 미국에서 공부하던 중 교통사고로 하반신 마비인데.. 뭐 고비를 넘고넘어 살아는 났지만.. 병원비가 1억 9천만원이 나왔습니다.. 이것도 여러 케이스중에 적게 나온편.. 뭐 또 어찌어찌 돈 안내고 한국에 들어오긴 했는데.. 다시 미국가서 살고는 싶지만.. 저는 병원갈일이 꼭 있을거라.. 의료비 무서워서라도.. 살지는 못할거 같아요.. 의료보험도 꽤 비쌀텐데 말이죠.. 레이 & 진 항상 건강하세요.. 건강이 전부입니다!! 드라이브 세이프~~

나이가 오십대 중반이 되니 한국의 의료 접근성과 서비스 수준이 너무 부럽습니다.미국은 자연 환경이 좋고 식재료가 싼 것은 너무 만족하지만 행정처리 속도나 일상 생활에서 필요한 서비스 수준이 한국 보다 많이 떨어지는 것 같습니다. 그래도 미국은 거부할 수 없는 미국만의 풍요로움과 자유로움이 있죠. 미국에 있으면 한국이 그립고 한국에 놀러가면 미국이 그립고^^

Enjoyed your observations. 1) Did you mention medical? Korean medical care might be better. My Korean-American brother-in-law (living in the Twin Cities) had dental surgery in Korea at very little cost which would have been extremely expensive in US. 2) internet speeds are faster in Korea. 3) Koreans are less tolerant of LBGT people.

It’s all relative. We paid more for health insurance in Korea than we do now in the US and the quality was quite different. For example, yes, a doctor’s appointment in Korea might be $15, but the doctor may only see you for less than 1-2 minutes. In the US, I pay a copay and see my doctor for 30-60 minutes for a very thorough appointment. For serious dental work, Korea and the US are similar (think implants, crowns, etc). For minor dental work, Korea is generally cheaper.

한국에서 외국인을 차별한다는 것도 사람 관점에 따라서 다른것이 아닐까요? 정작 미국에서 인종차별 사례들어보면 특히 동양인들은 흔히 where are you "originally" come from? 이라고 할정도로 이민자 2세 3세인데도 미국인 대접 못받는 사례가 많은데 말이죠...

Oh yes, I’m living proof of that. I grew up dealing with constant discrimination until the last few yrs. Now “suddenly”, if you’re Korean, ppl ask you all kinds of questions and tell you how much they love Korean culture, Korean anything and food, K-pop, k-cosmetics, Whaaat?!?!! These are the same ppl who told us to go back to where we came from and now they can’t wait to go to my Motherland. 😂😂😂😂

Having lived in Hawaii, Washington and California I experienced zero discrimination. As most Asians do, I pay huge taxes on my sizeable income which goes to assist black and white people of this country. So, I deserve thanks, not any discrimination.

한국과 미국 두곳 다 장단점이 있기에 어디가 더 좋다 라고 말하기 어렵습니다. 물가 비교는 어떤것들은 한국이 비싸고 다른것들은 미국이 더 비싸고 미국의 땅덩어리가 너무 크고 그에 따라 주에 따라 혹은 주안의 도시에 따라 물가 차이가 있기 때문에 뭐라 단정지어 얘기하기 힘들고 한국에서 미국으로 이민,유학와서 성공할 정도의 노력과 능력이면 한국에서도 성공하는데 무리 없다 봅니다. 미국이라고 무조건 기회의 땅이어서 누구나 성공할수 있는데가 아닙니다. 미국에 살고 계신 분들이 하는 돈만 있으면 한국이 최고라는 말도 그냥 농담으로 넘겨 들을 말이 아닌 경험에서 나오는 말이라고 이해해주시면 될겁니다.

The video was no too long at all!!! It wasn’t boring or annoying… I have listened carefully and it was very interesting. It’s a big decision you need to take but I think that you made the best choice. Later, if things or life changes, you can still go to Korea. As you told us, you are at an age at which you want to follow or realise your dreams/make carreer…. In Korea that would be difficult for both of you. The way you live together and make your decisions , is always with a lot of talking and thinking before you decide. That is the cleverest and kindest way and it is a big big pro that you are so understanding to each other. Wish you both a great time/life in the US and in everything you do.

연수때문에 미네소타 로체스터에서 1년 반 동안 살아봤습니다. 미네소타 사람들 정말 친절합니다. 항상 그곳 사람들에 대한 좋은 추억을 가지고 있습니다. 그런데 미네소타, 인간적으로 너무 추워요. 5월 5일 어린이날 폭설로 휴교령이 내려져서 아이들이 학교에 가지 않았던게 아직도 기억에 남습니다. 그래도 기회되면 가족들하고 다시 한번 가보고 싶어요!

This was the first time I watched your video. You described the pros and cons very well for living in both countries. I visited my family in Korea last November and tasted something I’ve never had in the States. My one of biggest pros for living in Korea is to have delicious fruits and vegetables, yes, sometimes, they are more expensive than in the States, but I value the quality and the taste very much. My most annoyed thing happening here in the States is the tip culture. I generally try to tip very well because they need tips to survive, but I get very annoyed to pay tips when I didn’t get a good service.

You can get a credit card that has primary CDW (collision damage waiver) such as Chase Safire preferred or chase ink cash (no annual fee) for your rental insurance. Just say no to car rental insurance and charge your rental on that credit card and you’ll be covered.

7:40 월세가 아파트 기준 서울은 평균 102만원으로 나오는데 원룸에 170만원이면 엄청나게 비싼거 아님? 거기에 한국에 아파트 시세가 서울 10억이 평균이라고 하는건 맞는데 미국의 원룸하고 비교하는게 적절한가는 조금 생각해 볼 문제고( 4억이면 강남 역삼동 4억원대 풀 옵션 쓰리룸 32평(약 81.75m²)관리비 월 8만원을 전세로 들어갈수 있음 ) 그리고 서울하고 비교 할거면 뉴욕이나 LA나 뉴욕같은 유명대도시하고 비교하는게 맞는 것 같고 대한민국도 서울과 지방의 물가 차이가 많이남 🤔

Great video with some nice facts about the pro's and con's. It is such a big and kind of scary thing to move to another country. Especially if they're so different if you would compare the two. And you guys are right, you're in the US now, give it the most and than decide. Very informative vlog. I love hearing about Korea. I am so glad you moved back here. I know it wasn't the way you thought things would be, but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and I feel you are exactly where you are meant to be in this moment. I think the only point I have a slight disagreement with is the affordable living here in MN. I feel we need more affordable rentals. I guess I see it differently because I was a single mom for some time before I met Cliff, and thinking about if Cliff and I weren't together how he would have been able to afford rent or a mortgage while paying a huge amount of child support. Times have certainly changed and we have so many young people living in that situation, and I see and hear their struggles.

Definitely agree! I think the rental prices here are ridiculous, but they are much cheaper than most of the country right now so we're grateful that, relatively speaking, it's more affordable here.

I live in Los Angeles and a decent home here is more than triple that amount! I don’t do snow like that though…so I’ll pass. So many other countries have better public transportation than the US.

Very interesting. My sister and I were adopted when we were very young and I do have some memories living in Korea. One concern we have is since we don't know our relatives, we also don't know if there are any hereditary health issues. I'm hoping to visit Seoul someday and maybe find out if we have some relatives.

We made a long video last year about healthcare so we didn’t touch on it in this video. Retirement in Korea is quite hard. The % of elderly people in poverty is at an extreme high. However, many Koreans work overseas and then ultimately retire in Korea.

I lol'd about the crime in Washington. The crime rates in PNW is like in the top 10% highest in the country, so you're spot on about crime alerts going off non-stop! I live in SW Washington and you either witness or read non-stop reports of carjackings, drive by shootings, phishing scams, property crime/vandalism, car and home break-ins, animal abuse, and on and on. I'm hoping to move back to the northeast in a year.😅

Regarding the “extra insurance” for rental cars, don’t automatically believe what the car rental reps tell you because most comprehensive auto insurance policies cover rental cars (aka - the insurance follows you not just your insured vehicle) and know that many premium credit cards (e.g. - Amex Blue Cash Preferred) also provide car rental loss and damage insurance or at least have some coverage. These rental car reps are told to upsell you on their insurance not even knowing if each individual is already covered by the two options that are mentioned above. Also, record the walk around the car with the rental rep and verbalize any pre-existing damage to the car which can save you if they try to pull any stunts about damage to the vehicle after you return it.
