We definitely did this in the UK for a few years, while we looked for the right place to live & farm.

Nice video. I like the pacing and naturalness of following along what you are doing. It would be interesting to know the time of year of the scenes, especially the outdoors ones, and also the approximate location within Alentejo (e.g. how far from the west & south coasts of the country).

Thanks so much! They were all shot in September 2024. We are about 2.5hrs away from Lisbon and 3.5hrs away from the Algarve..We are in the Serra De Sao Mamede National Park.

@alentejogoodlife oh wow, right near the Spanish border. I can see some advantages in that (e.g. buying fuel). Also, that is awesome being in a natural, protected area, although I expect it puts restrictions on what you can do on the land or with the buildings. How cold did it get on the recent coldest nights? On the Frankie off Grid channel, they reported -4C overnight recently, but they are north of you in the Castelo Branco district. Sorry for all my questions, but I am researching rural property in Portugal and interested in local climate from a horticultural perspective.

Yes we follow Frankie off Grid too!😀 .. We are sheltered a little by the mountains in the National Park, so we only get 2 or 3 days of freezing, and even then, it's not enough to even scrape ice off the car window! As soon as the sun is up - the frost is gone. Equally though, in the Summer we only get a week or so of 40C+.. again, due to the mountains. Water is plentiful here too! Good Luck on your search.. you'll find your own piece of heaven in rural Portugal for sure! You're absolutely right on planning permission, things just take that little bit longer being in a National Park. You need to be more sympathetic to your surroundings e.g. not having bright pink houses etc🤣😂 but we are used to that having lived in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales too!
