This sounds exactly like me!! I was born and raised in Toronto and moved to Edmonton a year ago. My friends and family roast me too but my quality of life is WAYYY better. My husband and I were able to buy a single family detached house and keep our preconstruction condo in Toronto. We also are making more in our respective fields in Edmonton than we did in Toronto. The higher household income and lower expenses is giving us the luxury to save thousands a month. We're finally able to start family planning without getting into piles of debt.

You are right we hardly see any currently popular acts here. We're not going to see Taylor Swift or Drake here sadly. But we're also not completely off the radar like a lot of medium sized North American cities are. We get a pretty steady stream of older legends from the Gen X and Boomer days. In the last year alone we've had performances by Garth Brooks, Wu Tang Clan, 50 Cent, Depeche Mode, Guns and Roses, Tool, Cancer Bats, Rod Stewart, Alexisonfire, Iron Maiden, Bryan Adams, The (Dixie) Chicks, Blink 182; this is only a partial list I just got tired of writing them out LOL. On the other end of the spectrum there's a lot of super talented local musicians just starting out you can see here because of the excellent music schools at U of A and Macewan. The classical music scene is really good at the ESO. Overall it's a fantastic music city but maybe not for younger millenials or gen z.

It's true but a lot of people are pretending this isn't the reality and that Edmonton is so horrible because of cold winters. In Vancouver you are literally barely going to get by on 100k/year unless you got into the rental market years ago. Even at $100k a crappy one bedroom will be half your income. If anyone ever wants to have a family it's impossible here and Toronto is the same.
@krazeeeyezkeith Жыл бұрын
My wife and I moved from Toronto to Edmonton and agree with basically everything you've said here except there's way more than country music here especially in Edmonton. There's a really good metal and punk scene here. There's pretty large scale EDM parties. We get some country, folk, pop, rock and metal legends playing our stadiums every year. There's really high quality classical music at the Winspear, and a big musical (and non-musical) theater scene. Tons of festivals for every type of music every year. A frankly Toronto-sized arts and music scene here punching way above its weight.

I lived in Edmonton for 10+ years and left in 2019…no thank you. Also moving to Edmonton w/ a spouse or partner is a completely different experience than arriving as a single person. The winters are dry and harsh and many people end up with skin problems. My skin and hair were constantly dry. As soon as I moved back to Ontario my hair is thicker, fuller and longer. I met great people in Edmonton and I enjoyed the Rockies but I’m way happier in the GTA physically, mentally and financially. However, if #yeg works for you and your partner then great!

Lmao, I'm literally living in poverty here in Vancouver renting a tiny room with a heroin addict in the same place. The people who try to scare me out of moving are always people who've had it easy financially and are not recognizing how hard it is for many people living in Vancouver. What time do the stores close are they open late like Toronto? I heard Edmonton was dangerous is it really? Would you say Edmonton is the best city in Canada because you can get homes cheap? What are the cons of Edmonton compared to Toronto thanks
@investwithval Жыл бұрын
Hey! So far it’s been an odd year - no snow and not very cold at all - when it does snow the driving slows down as it gets a bit hazardous (mostly from drivers who are not good in the snow) even then I continued going out all last year even during snow storms and it’s not that much worse than a bad snow day in toronto! When the chinooks come in it’s awesome 😎 stores are open just as late and every major city is dangerous toronto is pretty high crime right now so it depends on where you go obviously but I feel just as safe (there is a lot of homelessness and drug users but same thing in toronto) - might make a video on the cons soon love that idea thanks for commenting ❤️

Nice video! I have a question, though... Before setting Edmonton as your goal, did you ever consider Ottawa as an option? I'm a newcomer who's just arrived in Canada and decided to live in Edmonton based solely on KZbin videos and affordability numbers. I'm having serious second thoughts about staying here, mainly because of how bad the homelessness/opioid addiction currently is (yes, I know BC is worse) and how it's affecting things like stores/restaurants not wanting to return to Downtown after the pandemic and how dirty/littered the city is getting from revolved trashcans and camps leftovers. I appreciate any insights.

Hey I’d consider Ottawa if we had to move there because of the military but the homelessness and opioid crisis is all over Canadá I’ve seen it alive and well in Ottawa as well unfortunately :/ I see it here but not to such a serious extent Whyte Ave and the restaurant industry throughout Edmonton is very much alive - I’d say high costs are what’s stopping most businesses!
