Your new kitchen looks great. I like the tile. It sounds better in there too. I know how you feel about the ‘thank you’. I have a hard time saying that to my mother and I think I know why. When some one does a small gesture or favor, it’s easy for me to say ‘thanks’. But the larger the gesture, the greater the effort or sacrifice, the harder it is for me to say ‘thank you’. The greatest sacrifice, things no one else except your parents (or significant partner) would do, are the hardest of all. For me, there’s a lot of emotion involved and I feel like I might get choked up, maudlin or otherwise lose control. And simply saying ‘thank you’ can feel wholly inadequate. As a friend of mine likes to say, “Gratitude isn’t something you say, it’s something you do. Gratitude is an action word”. I don’t know if any of that will ring true for you but, I thought I might as well share. To go further along those lines, with advice you didn’t ask for, when you’re settled in, cook a surprise dinner and invite your father over. That should soften things a bit.

That's really helpful advice, and it makes so much sense what you say. I think you have hit the metaphorical nail on the head in terms of my issue - that it might be to do with the emotional aspect of saying thank you for big sacrifices. I have no problem writing thank you on twitter or you tube, or saying it to my support workers or other people who support me but I'm not intimate with. Thanks for suggesting the surprise meal idea. I am much better at acting out my gratitude, so cooking a meal is a fantastic way of doing that.

Yay, new house! The stress will be hard, but definitely worth it in the long run. I don't mind raw footage, so I'll watch your next video. I don't like "meltdown," either. I thought I was the only one. I don't mind seeing how you feel afterward, but I don't think I'd like to see someone in the middle of their emotional distress. I understand about your dad not hearing "thank you." I'm big on hearing thank you, too, so I do see his point. However, you're definitely not a rude person, and you have a mental block about it, so it's not really your fault. I know you're a good person, so I know that you're appreciate of things. An apple crumble would make me feel better, too!

Our 12 year old has high functioning autism and we sold our home over a year ago. He STILL hasnt transitioned yet to our new apartment. Every month its a new reason and of course during Christmas (we moved in Oct.last year so same thing happened last year) but he is SO worried that Santa will not know where we are since we moved! He is having Such a Hard time with this and on top of his extreme social anxiety he is having a really difficult time! He thinks he IS the only one like this and has even expressed this in a video we filmed on our way to surfers with autism, he Literally said that he didnt want to go bc he was fearful he would say something Wrong or Mean to other kids and then none will like him. I never realized how much this 12 year old was carrying around on his shoulders! It is great to hear y'alls stories and Anna's story bc it Helps so much!

Hi Anna, ty for your video and information! I am a Mom to autism, a 12 year old boy with autism. I really love hearing from #actuallyautistics to learn for myself to help with my son better, so thank you for that! I also wanted to say that our son Joshua is going through a hard time bc we sold our home last year and moved to an apartment. Joshua has transitioning issues really bad! Between that and his extreme social anxiety he is having a really hard time transitioning to our new place, even a Year later🙄🤷🏽‍♀️🧩😢 So i really appreciate your thoughts and sharing your story for all of us parents trying to navigate between doing the right thing and keeping the right amount of discipline and support 4 our children👍🏽💜 I just wanted to add that I too struggle with what to show on KZbin, but for me, I am not the one that i am deciding for. I always talk with Joshua b4 filming and i show him after i edit to make sure he is okay with it...But He's 12, How will he know what might or might not affect him later in life, so its a Struggle everyday with doing what is right by Joshua and Doing whats right for Joshua, ALways whats right 4 Joshua💜I have posted videos while he has a meltdown and what i actually have found is that it has opened up a door for Joshua and I to talk about it afterwards. He always says "i do not know why i do this mom" (meltdowns) and then we talk about it and talk about what led up to it and i believe it really is helping HIM 2 understand WHY he does this and to see it is really reflecting for him. He hasnt seemed affected badly but rather in a Good way, that he sees it and can now figure it out after the fact! Keep on doing what feels right for you Anna and I will keep watching and learning along with thousands or more others are! So thank you so very much and i am really sorry this is such a Looong Comment! lol😂😂🤗🥰💜👍🏽😍🧩💙 #autism #autismawareness
