ok so the alternator charges your car battery whilst the engine is running; you're best option is to unplug your coffee machine after using it(you don't want it plugged in too long if the van isn't running, if van is running it will be fine to leave plugged in) a 2nd battery isn't necessary but a portable car jumper cable/battery double would probably be beneficial to you they are cheaper and absolute life savers.

We are indeed, new to the channel. Great vlogs guys and, we love your energy. We are on our forth van now but, the build of this van is taking far longer than it should. In answer to a previous question, you park a large van wherever you can! Ours is a 22 foot LWB VW Crafter and we tend to abandon it in the far corner of supermarket car parks etc. Look forward to watching your travels as we will be back around the UK and across to Europe in the near future too. Therefore, tips and suggestions will be acted upon. Good luck both and happy travels. Mal, Ruth & Raffy.

being as you intend to live in the van it might be an idea to invest in a power bank to power your appliances then charge the powerbank either by solar power ,off of your van while driving or by a mains hook up if you stay on a site with electric hook up leisure batteries on their own will soon lose charge by using heavy wattage items might be worth looking at bluetti power banks or similiar

I am very happy for both of you and being here with you right from the start of this journey. I’ve only one tip for both of you; Solve any personal issue before you to bed and speak about everything without holding back. Your relationship in the long-term in such a small room especially when it rains for a week and you can’t/won't drive away depends on it. The rest you'll figure out.

When the lights start flashing you should turn everything off and check for melted fuses, cables and connectors. You could fry your inverter or power controller if you are not careful. Or worse, start a fire. You should upgrade your power system. Get a quote from an electrician. Explain your ideas for improvements in the future and explain your current usage that way they can recommend the proper kit for your usage. You do not have to hire the electrician but have them explain their plan to you so you understand better what changes need to be made.

Thanks 🙏🏼! We have gotten it looked at by an electrician in a future episode. All good now 🙌

The inverter is not big enough to power the coffee machine. Check your inverter power (watts) against the Coffee machine.. (Probably 1000 watt inverter and the coffee machine about 2000 watts. Getting more battery , is a good idea but will probably need a bigger DC-DC charge to keep up with the demand of the larger inverter.

When i had my camper van i invested in a second 'leisure' battery, that was fitted under the seat, when the engine is of and you are using electric appliances they will draw the electric from the powerful second battery and not use the main one so as to ensure you are never left with a flat engine battery, when the engine is running the second battery will get recharged, good luck.

Welcome to vanlife! 🎉 Honestly its a bigger learning curve than most people realise. Itll feel overwhelmong at times and that things are just going wrong but dtick eith it. I found the sweet spot starts kickin in at about 3-4 weeks Im sure youve sorted it by now but unless you have a good lithium lofepo4 baytery, the coffee machine will be a struggle. Most batteries have a maximum amperage you can drain at any given time regardless of how big the inverter is. Lithium is exspensive, but very worth itnif you live full time Good luck! See you on the road

You could add some batteries and get a decent size inverter 2000 to 3000 watt inverter. 3 (100 amp) batteries or one big 300 amp battery with a decent size inverter would be good enough. you can read how many watts your coffe maker will draw and then just make sure your inverter is well over that amount to be safe. I run an instant pot on mine with that much power and its fine. I remeber setting up my van a year ago and theres sooo much you find that you need but its so fun to get it all set up.

As a fellow vanlifer... Please do not get a generator 😅

Dylan looks quite tall will he fit in the bed? What do you do for a toilet and shower? You will become camper van experts in no time obviously by trial and error but you’ll get there💯

You can get proper camping coffee makers that run off the solar battery units. Also, you could try an American coffee maker that runs on 110v and use a converter to downstep the power so you use less current. Since you have a gas stove, why not get a Bialetti stovetop coffee peculator?
@2Passports1Dream Жыл бұрын
Thank you!! We were thinking do that but we plan on getting a 2nd battery very soon 😜

The voltage goes down by half and the current draw doubles. Still uses the same wattage.

Realistically you just can't use stuff like that coffee machine it's not worth the ludicrous amount of electricity it used to make a coffee.

I feel like you have to shift your whole POV and realize that you both are actually living in a van. You will have costlier mistakes later on if you don't internalize that.
