Tropical Plant Party

Күн бұрын

Finally! I spent the entire video moving my houseplants and my tropical plants outside for summer. In the process I went over what did well and which plants struggled. I used this as an opportunity to tour all of my houseplants and give updates on how they are all doing. Likewise I also talked about acclimating houseplants to sun, treating for mealybugs and some palm tree fungus issues. I was most excited to show the croton and thai constellation variegated monstera in their full glory, outside in the fresh air! The hibiscus plants are already perking up since filming this video, they are really loving the rain and natural light. Lastly I talked about some exciting garden plans and possible outdoor patio makeover that may be coming soon.

So glad you've finally got some warmth up there! Man I wish we had some showers! Its been in the upper 80s and 90's and we haven't had rain since May 4th. SO DRY!!! Love the little sandcastles! They would look really cool in the giant clam planter with succulents around them ! haha *inner child screams* Neem does stink sort of, but over the years I really haven't found a good enough substitute that isn't highly toxic, and works quite as well. It just seems to do the best here for all the nasties! Can't wait to see the new patio set and what you chose! I've been looking for a new set myself!

Oh yeah, neem really is the best. I dont mind using it outside, but I can't handle it during winter inside of the growspace. Barf! Oh I have fun plans for the sandcastles! Love them!

Pumpkin: That thing is laying on my thing. I'm just going to stomp off. Is that a peony behind the bananas? I had no idea you had a peony. My favorite flower and I miss being able to grow them. In true Jeff fashion, I contemplate ways to grow things that aren't meant to grow in my climate. Like I'm seriously considering buying a beverage cooler to put in the garage, buying some peonies and keeping them in pots and plopping them in the beverage cooler for three months to chill them for flowering. I haven't done it yet, but I haven't ruled it out either. (beverage coolers are EXPENSIVE)
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 3 жыл бұрын
That's not a bad idea! Maybe you can find a used one on Craigslist or something. Yup, that's that's peony. I ordered that like 7 years ago from a plant catalog. It was supposed to have giant coral colored flowers. It showed up as like 2 roots in a baggy and took 5 years to get big enough to bloom and the flowers are not even close to being coral colored. That thing was like $30! It is still pretty, but it just looks like any old people I could have gotten from a local nursery for the same price except would have been blooming size at time of planting. Rude.

Great vlog Jeff! I'm enjoying seeing all your tropicals come back out especially the palms...I'm in love with that Washingtonia!! On a side note if I can help regarding the Areca palm. I've experienced Fusarium before on certain palms of mine and including an Areca long ago. After trial and error I learned that fungicides that contain thiophanate-methyl work great in stopping the spread of fusarium on palms and more importantly changing the soil is paramount. Once it's in there, it's in there for good. Hope I can help! Cheers 👍😁🌴

Hey! I've always been a little envious of people who can do the dry storage, keeping them between active growth and dormancy is risky! Nice thing about bananas is how fast they grow when it warms up. I'm sure by the end of June ours will all look the same.

Forgot to mention, my daylilies came. I would definitely recommend Smokey's Gardens if you find yourself in the market. They sent big fat fans with good roots. They looked a little worse for wear in the box (some yellowing leaves) but as soon as I potted them up (because I need them to establish before planting them out) they perked right up.
@TropicalPlantParty
@TropicalPlantParty 3 жыл бұрын
Always so nice when a plant site comes through and sends nice plants. Sad how much more uncommon that is becoming. I used to have so many daylilies, mostly Stellas and a pink Stella-like that I loved but can't remember the name of. I know those are the most boring and basic daylilies, but at the time they were new and exciting. Over the years, the sun got to be less as the trees grew and im down to just a couple little clumps that never bloom, but still come back each year. I should dig those up and move them.

How is Toby doing without Buddy? I hope your Areca Palm will be ok. It doesn't look too bad. In fact, all of your plants you moved out look pretty good. Your Thai Constellation is so beautiful! I'm excited for you that you are getting new outdoor furniture and can't wait to see it! I'm anxious to see what you get done in your next vlog. You can send your trees and plants down to me in South Florida in the fall and they can hang out in the sunshine my backyard until the late spring. I had one tree in my backyard until it died and it’s just a stump now. I bought a black diamond crape myrtle, a olive tree, an a lemon tree, but it will take years for them to grow. You know what they use fix a flat for in Miami? Usually, it’s some guy doing illegal plastic surgery out of his home and injecting it into a woman’s butt to give her a bigger booty.
