Hey Kevin and Sarah! An easy trick that we have used for loading hogs into a trailer. Sounds kinda silly but it works. Put a bucket over their head. They will back up trying to get away from the bucket. You can guide them backwards right up a ramp. Good luck with the rest of the pigs!

I grew up on a hog farm... eating off the ground might be fine, BUT it can cause various health issues. I have a suggestion: find an old discarded water heater or well pressure tank, cut it in half lengthwise, weld two pieces of 2" pipe horizontally at each end on the rounded side. flip it over and you have a sturdy feeding trough that keeps the feed clean and off the ground. AND Charlie can't flip it if the pipe "feet" are long enough... :>}

I think we need to be more concerned with corporate farming, they are the ones purchasing the majority of farmland. Not to build on, but to farm. So $ still trickling up and putting corporations in charge of our food supply. Not only filled with chemicals but controlling the flow of supply to make the most $.

When I was in high school, I was helping my dad and brothers move a boar my dad borrowed from a friend to breed our sows. We had them inside a barn. He did not want to leave his new girlfriends. After four of us finally got him separated from the sow's pen and into the ally way between the stalls. Using 4 x 8 sheets of plywood as pig boards to cut off the pen because he destroyed the pen dividers and gate. This boar was so mad, he was flipping 50 gal steel drums full of grain into the rafters with his nose then he moved a 4 horse stock trailer that was hooked to a truck over about a foot. We thought we were going to die a couple of times. When we finally got him to his owner the farmer said to just let him out in the driveway. We all looked at each other and asked if he was sure about that idea and offered to back the trailer up to his pen. The farmer said no just to let him out there. We did just that, fully expecting to be chasing a boar around the farm. The farmer just walked along side of him and tapped him on the shoulder to change course when needed. He walked right to his pen and in he went. We were all speechless.

We got a trio of IPP breeders in June of 2020. We spent 150 on lumber in our small town and duplicated your feeding station. We still have it in the pen however we have never liked it. When people come to buy our piglets we tell them don't make one. Rubber pans for each adult pig work better for us. Our breeding sows get right on a trailer spring and fall for a ride to and from the pasture. They are able to get on and off with out a ramp. They can get on without one when motivated. We have walked them all the way to the pasture but they will not go through a hotwire gate. So it works better to get out of the trailer into the pasture. In central Nebraska locker dates for beef are still over 1 year wait. For pigs they will give you a date 6 months from when you call. When it came time to get our large feeder pig on the trailer. He would not get on. We tried everything. I called the locker they said have him here by noon. They would not work with any kind of change of date. It was a nightmare but we did get him there by noon. I wish there was a traveling butcher in our area that would come here.
