Words can’t describe how much I already miss my Airstream. This was a very emotional video to film and edit. I put my heart and soul into customizing and renovating it as my first home, made so many amazing memories with it, and grew so much by proving just how capable I am of anything I put my mind to. Living in a house is weird. I feel out of place. I’m already longing for RV life and it’s only been a few days. Thank you all for joining me on my Airstream journey and continuing to support me as I transition into van life. 🥰
My van build will be complete in April 2023. Drifter Vans will be sending me footage throughout the build and I will be making videos about the entire process! They are such a great company to work with and I can’t recommend them enough.

Hi Sarah, I am a PA that retired about 8 months ago. My wife and I just bought a 24 ft B+, I picked it up in Denver and just beat the storms getting to Santa Rosa California. Currently waiting to head north to Washington in a few days. I enjoy your content tremendously, and am impressed with your courage. Continue to follow your dream, welcome to van life!

I became a nomad in 2015 with zero experience. I can relate to 'saying goodbye'. Lots of 'firsts'. I now tow a toy hauler. I totally get the 'towing and parking feeling'. Now that there are 2 Class As with rear patios, I am considering going back.

I’ve had an Airstream for 3 yrs and love it. This might be my last year however for reasons you mentioned and some others. I think I’m going the Truck Camper route. I already have the truck, purchased a year ago. Some amazing truck campers out there. I will be researching and touring these campers all year. I’m planning a two month trip to Alaska in 2024 and hope it will be in a truck camper. Best of luck with the van build.

@OutdoorSugar

@@divergirl8296 I’ve been looking at Lance. How has your camper been? Any issues? Truck campers are getting me more and more excited. What would you say are the major advantages VS a travel trailer? Thanks, sorry for the slow reply.
@divergirl8296
@divergirl8296 Жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorSugar the main reason I went with a truck camper is I didn't want to have to tow anything. So that's the biggest advantage for me. I can easily get in and out of most parking lots and gas stations and back into most campsites relatively easily. The big disadvantage is once you get where you're going if you want to go drive around and explore you either have to take the camper with you or take the camper off. But I've found it's really not that big of a deal just to take my camper with me everywhere I go. In fact sometimes it's an advantage to have your home and your bed and your own bathroom with you everywhere you go. I won't deny though sometimes it would be nice to be able to just jump in a car and go run errands real quick. I love my Lance and haven't had any issues with it. I got lucky and found a great deal on a used truck and truck camper together on FB marketplace. They're both older (truck 2001, camper 2003) but were in great shape. Personally I wouldn't buy any camper from any manufacturer that's 2020 or newer. In 2020 the demand for campers sky rocketed to where the manufacturers couldn't keep up and they all started cutting corners. People are having a lot of issues with brand new campers straight from the manufacturer. My dad bought a brand new 2021 travel trailer that immediately leaked the first time it trained. Whatever camper you buy I would recommend having an independent inspector check it out.
@OutdoorSugar
@OutdoorSugar Жыл бұрын
@@divergirl8296 hey DiverGirl thanks for the reply. I hear you about towing. That’s probably the number one for me as well. The thought of not getting jammed in with a trailer, I like. You always have to be some mindful of where the hell you go so you can make sure you can get out. I’m getting a little tired of hooking and unhooking as well. Any major disadvantages?

Good for you pulling a trailer for a year on ur own. We just bought a trailer and I fully agree on the hook up I can’t believe u could lift the hitch so darn heavy. But my husband does that part of it. I don’t ever drive it I’m too chicken. A van for a lovely single girl as urself is more convenient for sure. 🇨🇦

Here is wishing you safe travels in your new van. I’m sadden to see the travel trailer didn’t work for you after you put so much effort into personalizing it, but I can see the attraction of a van for someone in your situation. Oddly, I enjoy travel days with a trailer, and don’t see hitching and unhitching as a burdensome chore. Maybe it’s because I’m doing it more regularly than your situation allows.

"Can Do Sarah", although your Jeep was technically rated to tow your airstream, you would have felt far less stressed if you were towing it with a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon. When I towed my bass boat with a Jeep, it was a little like "the tail wagging the dog" until I went to the heavier Yukon with a wider wheel base and a lot more torque. Might I suggest you list your Airstream on E-Bay if you are planning on selling it yourself in order to hit a broad audience. Don't just give away all of those expensive items you bought for the Airstream. Once you've been paid, ask the new owner if they are interested in your generator, pumps, winter bags that went around to prevent freeze up, etc. If they aren't, list them on Craigslist or E-Bay to help offset the expenses. Now enjoy sitting still until the new build is done. -D

Wow! I went through the pre-Airstream few weeks. Missed your trip across the US in real time, but got to see the Airstream pick-up & all your videos about it, the things you bought, the problems you had, the things you loved & I wanted to be you so bad!!! I couldn’t set off on my own journey & can’t for a few years, if ever, but loved the Airstreams so much, I thought it was the way to go. You’ve really put an important perspective on things for me & now, I’m not even sure if it’s something I would like to try anymore. I really thought boondocking across the US was my dream. It kind of still is & you still have a trailer in the end vs a European tour which would maybe be better, but end more quickly & no money in the end. You’ve made it very clear not to jump into things though! I never thought towing a trailer would be so hard! Watching you, I’m really learning life lessons & I’m way older, but super impulsive! Thank you!! Can’t wait to watch the van build & life!!! You & Rue take care!!! ♥️
