Built in 1886, this red stone structure was the last remaining mansion in downtown St. Paul. Vacant for decades, it was moved several blocks away in November 2001 to make way for new development. At its new site, it was renovated into condominiums. This compilation of videos from the Capital City Show in the fall of 2001 tells the story. Produced by Mike Popadiuk and Mark Johnson

We happened to have breakfast at the Downtowner the day this home was moved down seventh street near the restaurant. It cast quite a shadow blocking the sun as it moved slowly on its journey to a new location. It was exciting to watch.

The amount of times I've driven by this building and admired it, I never would have guess it started life somewhere else!

As a St. Paul resident, I very much remember the Armstrong-Quinlan house sitting in an empty lot mostly used for parking just North of the old St. Paul Civic Center, and later across from Xcel Energy Center. It was in dire shape. I was pleased to see the building saved, moved on Eagle Pkwy and renovated. Nice work St. Paul!

Remember to riding my bicycle past it as a young kid in the early sixties when people still lived in it. Help build a new foundation for a house that once sat where the children's hospital on smith street is now, it was moved down by the high bridge. TNT was used to blast rock to dig a new basement a half a block up from the end of Goodrich

Wow, I had no idea that house had been moved from another location! Do we know how many separate residences are in it now?

Fun fact: two former residents of the Armstrong-Quinlan House for recovering alcoholics were Ronald Wilson Regan and Johnny Cash. All old people in the neighborhood here know this.

I believe it was only a alcohol rehab house for part of 1948 and 1949 then turned into a nursing home

@@Bigboytravel I lived at Quinlan Care Home on two separate occasions and was fortunate enough to listen to all the old timers over long talks and cigarettes. Roger gave me some tobacco just the other day. He's probably in his mid 80's.

Its crazy that they can invade and move your house off your property after youre dead. You really own nothing even after paying it off
