Last summer, we moved to a remote cottage in Pembrokeshire, Wales. This is the beginning of that story. It's had ups and downs - a constant balance of freedom and isolation, but I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to live in this corner of the world, and wanted to share it here in a cozy vlog 💕
Because everyone always asks 'How far is your nearest supermarket?' I thought I'd clarify that there are lots of lovely towns around here with shops, restaurants and cafes, but it does take us at least 20 minutes to drive to a shop (not too far at all, really!) and as I'm trying to be more present, I don't film when we go to town, so you won't see that side of things on my vlog.

Just thought I'd mention, after a few comments on the topic, that my partner and I both work remotely (me as a photographer, creating imagery for brands, and Alex works in software). More and more people are finding this kind of lifestyle possible after remote work became more common during/after the pandemic ☺

Have you thought of investing in a drone to capture all the stunning Welsh countryside? You don’t need to reveal where you live, just pick and choose on your travels. Apologies if you already have, just caught up with your channel today. Subscribed, liked and wish you well. Carmarthenshire is absolutely beautiful too.

My gran had a saying, the gist of which was that the difference between living for the little moments and the grand ones is simple. There are bound to be millions of little ones, and only a handful of the grand. We all know the grand ones when they come along, so you don’t have to worry you’ll miss out on them. But true living is embracing all of the small moments. That's where you’re most likely to find yourself. I missed a lot when I was younger, because I was sure that I, the globe trekking, big moment seeking wanderer, had it right. I didn’t. So glad the two of you are living the small, truly extraordinary moments together, and sharing them here as well. Enjoy!

Codswallop I have driven around Snowden(not Guinness Mont or whatever the local tongue says) three times and all I saw was mist, then, when entering shops, the locals turned away, refused to engage and started speaking in the local patois with a malice that was palpable. The late spring and summers here are lovely, but it is definitely an adjustment. Lovely video!

I’ve just found your channel. What a beautiful house you moved into. That big window and the deep window sills are so cosy. The Pembroke coast is so lovely. Your video made me have a tear or three for all the things that make me homesick. Beautiful trees, animals in fields rugged coastlines the Dawn chorus, beautiful little towns. To live remote you need more cats!! I now live on a small island on the Atlantic coast of Canada, Fairly remotely, 2 hours for a big shop. I love it. I don’t miss people. I watch the deer, pheasants and eagles flying over, I embrace the little things every day. A pretty cloud, the change in colour of the ocean, the different wild flowers. I try and embrace the best of the seasons every day, whatever it may hold. I miss my family and friends and go back to visit England. I miss the quintessential Englishness of things so much but it’s so busy, fast paced, people aren’t always friendly.

It's almost like I'm watching myself. We sold and moved this year in April. We are only 10 minutes away from Wales, and we are in a fairly rural location. We are still adjusting also. But we absolutely love it here. The peace and the beauty of the stillness. The wildlife. We are yet to experience our first winter, but for once in my life, im actually looking forward to it. Even as Autumn has now arrived, it evokes a totally different sensation in me. All the leaves are slowly turning into warm colours, and Im even looking forward to snowfall. I hope so. Apparently, we will get a lot. I'm so excited. I do find myself feeling isolated at times as well. My family is scattered all over. But, I keep myself busy with projects and crafts. It really helped. I also got burned out when we first arrived on top of Fibromyalgia. I had to learn to be kind to myself and rest until I had the strength to continue. You do learn a lot. Im glad I discovered your channel. Maybe I won't feel so alone now. I wish you all the happiness.

I just realised alot of yous being fond of this place (Wales), it's probably because you live in a hustling, bustling place yourself & daily commute & busy city life is your norm. I know, i come from London. You must get out and about to places like the countryside, hills, mountains, running water & animals - be close to nature from time to time. This 9-5 isn't in tune to our innate state & calm disposition. Take a break & give your soul its satiating drink, find those travels in this beautiful world. 🌎🫶

I stayed a couple of times on the Pembrokeshire coast more than 30 years ago, and have never forgotten the feeling and how stunning it was - your film really captures it so well. ❤ A spell of isolation and getting back to basics is good for the soul now and again after stressful events, especially in these naturally beautiful landscapes. Loved what you said about the hard winter stripping away things you needed to let go, and making your roots stronger. I've come to feel that's the point of these spells of isolation in more natural landscapes. It's a cleansing and strengthening experience, somehow.

@@adventuringbeth Definitely someone who feels landscapes very much, it's fascinating to me how different places have their own energy. I'm currently living in the West of Scotland, been here three years now and it's been incredibly healing. ❤

I live in Honolulu and it's been 90 degrees with high humidity, no tradewinds, just hot sticky and uncomfortable even at night. Loved seeing some fog and cold cloudy or rainy days that you've shown. Too bad we couldn't trade places for a month or two LOL! Aloha!

Watching this made me think about my daughter who would love a home like your's. The way you have accepted how nature works in Wonderful Wet Wales, is so inspiring for other's who may come here. It was also quite emotional for me, not only for how happy my daughter would be, but the way you filmed your life with the cottage and how you have decorated, but also how being outside can bring us to a place of calmness within nature. My daughter has said for some time now that she would love to move to Tenby, or down that area. She is in University studying Interior design Architecture, so seeing this may give some inspiration for her move in the future. Thank you.

Damn, girl, this vlog is *far* too lovely - now everyone is going to want a piece of Pembrokeshire's quiet magic! You're letting the 😸 out of the bag 😂 Good luck with your new life. My one practical suggestion: make the effort (especially when you don't feel like it) to reach out for local connections and friends. Isolation is easy in the countryside but can be a two-edged sword... 😘

An amazing post! Love the ocean views and the pizza oven! Best to do outside cooking now since I expect winters are cold and windy! In studying abroad in London a life time ago (I was so broke) I visited two places: Oxford and Wales. Went to Brecon Beacon park, the grey beach, loved the moors and sheep painted with blue dots! Best, from Colorado!

Hi Beth, new subscriber here! firstly thank you for sharing your journey and the beautiful moments and struggles you’ve shared.I’m so happy that you’ve realised that nature truly helps heal body and mind, as someone who has also had to face and battle demons we have had a similar experience over the last 6 years and despite the hard work renovating and the struggle to settle it’s been the best thing we’ve ever done! I so look forward to seeing how the cottage and garden develops and wish you love and strength in healing ❤️ps love the clay birds you’re very talented!

This was beautiful. I've moved from the U.S. to Ireland. My first winter was by the sea, but not isolated from people. This summer, we moved to the Wicklow mountains. I have forests now, and the isolation is just what I need to recover from burnout. I'm heading into my first autumn in the countryside, wondering how it will be, but ready to embrace it.

I moved to Pembrokeshire 13 years ago from Wiltshire. I love it. There's actually alot going on and you just have to get out there and find what you're interested in. It's not as isolated as it first appears. When I first came I was lonely but I met a woman who told me about a sports club which I joined. It made the world of difference and I met loads of like minded people. Good luck with it and I hope you stay. Might see you on a beach one day 🙂

it’s a wonderful place isn’t it? What’s your fave spot here? And I agree (I mention in the caption that it’s not all wilderness as it seems in my video) even though the spot we live in is pretty cut off whilst I’m still learning to drive 😬 it’s great that you found a club full of like-minded people! I’m on the lookout for an art club of some sort at the moment ☺️ thank you for your lovely comment 🩷

Hi Beth just found you on You tube. I live in Carmarthenshire on a homestead. Lived in Wales for nearly 21 yrs from England. Absolutely love Wales. We have learnt to live around the seasons as we work a lot outside and embrace the seasons as they arrive. I used to live in Pembrokeshire too. It’s stunning as are all parts of Wales. Look forward to next video. Your cottage is amazing. Enjoy xx

Agree about living according to the seasons here. It’s an old fashioned detail I love. I’m in North Pembrokeshire on an old farm. I don’t know if you live close to the sea, but I’ve found that the shipping forecast is more reliable warning about the storms than the standard weather forecast. It’s handy to know if a storm force 10 is due and outdoor things can be gathered up safely in advance.
