Funnily enough, the sun is what prevents me from moving south - I observed my in laws spending their last years locked up for months in summer with the air conditioning blazing and shutters closed, and that was not even in the south of Italy.

Have been to Italy twice for about a couple of months. Went to most cities and researched everything about the regions, expenses, taxation, infrastructure. Basically Italy wants to have its cake and eat it too. For an aging population you would think they would offer incentives for people from bigger industrial countries to move here and help them rebuild and maintain these dilapidated towns and roads but no, they want you to move here so they can tax you more than your original country and make a lot less in income, even your pension and they claim to give you free healthcare but the reality is their healthcare has access problems and it is not the best or even equivalent to the US. It’s a joke that 7% rule to force you to live in less than desirable areas. The Italians need to understand that if they want people from countries that are well to do to move here they have to accept their reality and make much easier for immigration, taxation and bureaucracy. I’m not trying to be condescending but no thanks.

I would think that if they wanted to repopulate the smaller and less accessible towns, they would incentivate their own citizens to stay, (who are running away from those places because of lack of opportunities - the reason they are emptying in the first place).

Yep, agreed, they need to streamline bureaucracy for sure, and simplify but it's not gonna happen is the sense I have. Even their digital nomad visa has taken two years and it's still not finalized yet...and Covid is OVER basically.

I'm pretty sure taxes are less especially if you are a crypto trader. I believe you are allowed to make 50k euros annually in crypto without being taxed and anything above that is still being taxed less. That's pretty good if you ask me

I thought we, Americans, or foreigners in general couldn't be double taxed, taxed in our own home country for assets (home, stocks, savings) and then again in Italy. I didnt hear anything about that in this video? I understand that if you buy a home in Italy you need to be taxed on the home's property tax, or if you actually make an income in Italy then of course Italy will tax you. But, if you are going to Italy in retirement not making any income, why should Italy tax assets that are in another country and have nothing to do with Italy?

I am getting close to an appointment with a US consulate for dual citizenship through Juris Sanguinis and plan to live part-time in the US and Italy. I am currently a U.S. citizen and applying for dual citizenship with Italy by descendent. I currently receive social security disability income and wondering if that would continue if we move to Italy for a few years.

Italy is not bureaucratic. Taxes, bills, fines, medical visits can be managed all online nowadays. It is better than France and Germany where most of tax management still needs a lot of paper! The old stereotype is not true anymore thankfully. Moving to Italy is a long process, but that is similar to any other countries.

Yes Covid played a huge part in getting things rolling online. Getting much better thank goodness. However, some things like appointments for visas/citizenship takes ages, as do court cases. As I mentioned under another comment. Thanks for watching

No takes 10 years to be a citizen, while for most countries it is 5 years.

What if you're from the us but don't own property or have a retirement fund? What if you just have savings? Or social security? Is it better if you get dual citizenship? I guess hire an Italian financial planner and ask them?
