We moved to Japan! I hope this video is helpful for someone who's planning to move to Japan with a pet.
It was so far the longest flight (13.5 hours) for our Chihuahuas (Momo 10 and Sora 7). I'm glad we were able to take them with us in the cabin when flying with Finnair.
Unfortunately, in the airplane we weren't allowed to let our dogs out of their carriers at all. I knew it but I was still sad to be reminded.
After arriving in Tokyo we headed to Osaka and then Hyogo to our new home. We travelled nearly 24 hours in total!
Thank you for watching!

your video has done what others haven't, and with little to no talking - you've really uncomplicated the somewhat-complex process of importing one's pet to Japan. I've researched this for a while, looking for something to confirm if I've understood the process right, and I'm SO GLAD that I found your video. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad that you and your pups made it safely to Japan.

Next time definitely get a clean pad! There was a study done at Harvard where they got scared/nervous people to sweat onto a cloth, and then happy excited people to sweat onto a cloth. Then a couple hours later exposed the cloth to seperate dogs. The dog who got the scared/anxiety sweat got very anxious, went to the corner, and hid under the desk, visibly scared. The dog who got the happy sweat cloth smelt it and started wagging his tail and wanted to play. It was a study done on the extent of dogs noses, but it proved that a dog can FEEL the emotion (aka the brain chemicals) of the being that sweat/peed at that very moment. So if thats the Pee pad from when she was at the dentist/vet all doped up and in pain, she probably smelt that anxious/worry/scared. Its a random fact not all people know, but I like to share it so others can be more vigilant in the future. It probably skyrocketed their worry right before the flight. Anyways, pass this info on, its really neat. Its also why dogs are mans best friend, they can literally SMELL how we're feeling.

Hi!! thank you so much for this video!!! I’m moving to Japan with my dog as well. I’m having trouble with getting a rabies antibody blood test which we don’t have a lab that is designated by the Minister of Agriculture Japan over here in Canada. Did you send blood sampling to another country’s lab?
@TofuNikki
@TofuNikki 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Oh, that sounds a bit tricky! Fortunately we were in the UK when the rabies antibody tests were taken, so we didn't have to send them abroad. Our vet sent the tests to the laboratory for us. Maybe you could email that Kansas laboratory and ask some help from them? Or maybe your vet knows something about it? I hope everything goes well for you❣

Oh thank you so much for sharing 😭 I'm going to be moving to Japan with my fiancee and I just can't leave my cats behind 🥺 When filling out the notifications of importing animals form, did you need to fill out separate forms per pet? Or were you able to put momo and sora and their information all on one form? I'm going to bring my two cats so I hope and want to make the process as smooth as you did with your dogs🥲 ❤

@uchi9
@uchi9 Жыл бұрын
@@Nellysaywhat I've made 35% of progress so far. It's 's definitely a little crazy because for me, I feared that my vet wouldn't know what to do with such a procedure and I sure wouldn't know what to do since I would be trying to figure it out WITH them. And scheduling what to do at what time was another ball to juggle 😅 (because there's money involved here) But we should reassure ourselves that these are the people that have access to information/ resources that we don't (that's what I did, at least) and believe both sides will make it work. But I hope for you (as it was for me and am currently experiencing) it'll become more clearer as you read and re-read the forms and import guide. That way you'll be able to plan accordingly and make the appointments that are appropriate with each for. That's how it clicked for me. I'll be getting my cats microchipped, their "second" rabies vaccine, and same day blood sample drawn next week. Best of luck for the both of us.

@TofuNikki
@TofuNikki Жыл бұрын
Hi, Those carrier bags in the video were bought from Finland but I recently bought a new one from Amazon. This should be okay for cabin, but I haven't tested it out yet. I guess every airline has their own rules and measurements for pet carrier bags, found on their website, I recommend to check them out and find a bag that fits in with those regulations. Usually it's not a problem if the carrier bag is slightly taller than those measurements given, it just have to be able to give in and fit under the seat. www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B07CGJHX6T?ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Hi, if you have time to wait, you can do the blood tests in your country, before moving to Japan. After doing the test, you need to wait for 180 days. But if you need to move sooner, then your pet need to do a quarantine in Japan, it's up to 6 months.
