When I was going into the City for work, I used casual carpool, and loved it - as both a passenger or as a driver. Inexpensive and often enlightening talking to new folks on the way to work.

BART is a light rail system, CalTrain is a heavy rail system. There is a HUGE difference. For more than 20 years I commuted from SF (and Daly City, briefly) to my job in Oakland. Working the PM shift I had an easy commute home, but getting to Oakland for my 3:00 PM shift was a challenge. EVERY DAY there was a delay for an accident, or a construction detour, or both.
