I agree with your points except the snootiness - I haven’t really experienced that. I live in Oakville and love it. I find it a beautiful city. Lots of trails and parks. Good schools. I wouldn’t rule it out.

Your completely right! Its full of a lot of amazing people who live in Oakville and absolutely love it! Just because of a few bad apples, I wouldn't rule it out either! Just want to make people aware of my experiences and the feed back from others!

I have long hair, big beard, Tattoos. I live in Jokeville (Oakville) and I get labeled all kinds of things on the way I look and carry myself. If people just take the time to smile back when I smile or try and have that short conversation in a line waiting for your Tim Hortons coffee you would see I am actually a nice guy some have called me a gummy bear. All people see are the stereotypes I listed. I get it alot I grew up in Oakville 80's to present day. I practically lifted in that Toys R Us in Dorval Town Center one I remember ever lay out of it from 88‐till now I remember how the shelving was and a walkways. I remember Jumbo Video where that hockey next to where chapters used to be. Loved it when their was so much more Farm land and woods. The town of Oakville is also very shady, they still refer to themselves as the town of Oakville. Because if they changed it to the city of Oakville they would have to pay city taxes. Even though hopeful has the capacity of a city it's still legally called the Town of Oakville.

I totally agree. Coming from downtown Toronto I was absolutely surprised at their wheelchair accessibility parking especially in downtown lakeshore Oakville. Even using a disabled parking permit I can never find any spots and the ones that I do I have to pay park with my permit. In downtown Toronto you can Find lots of street parking for free with a disabled parking permit. In downtown Oakville they have a couple of disabled parking spots on the street that are pay parked and metered. And then even after you pay park you can't get out of your car because of the parking conditions of the cement cuthe Samantha kerbs garbage cans and other obstacles...To me this is inherent discrimination that refuses to acknowledge that disabled people tend to be marginalized economically. There disabled parking is only for the rich older ambulatory "disabled people", not actual wheelchair users.

That is a very frustrating. Something the town of Oakville will have to continue to improve on..

Can you comment on the apt. buildings on speers . My child is considering to move for school. Or can you recommend any affordable rentals for students
@LivingInHamiltonOntarioCanada2 жыл бұрын
You will find some student rentals among lots of Family's living in those buildings. Living there you are also just a short walk away from Kerr Village. The best spot to find rentals for students is the Facebook Marketplace & Groups for Oakville rentals or specifically for Sheridan rentals.

Good points all around. I think after someone lives here for a certain period of time finding your way around isn't too difficult, and plus it's not something google maps can't solve for you. The snootiness I haven't really experienced but I have heard from others who have, thankfully not really all that much an issue. Shopping? sure, Oakville place is never busy even at the best of times, but like other comments have mentioned malls are starting to become a dying breed, I'd be surprised if that mall is here 20 years from now. I do wish there was more trendy places to go for restaurants in Oakville. We often find ourselves travelling towards Burlington/Hamilton for better places to go.

I was born and raised in Oakville😍😍. My 5 kids was born in Oakville. And so were their children also born in Oakville I love Oakville it is beautiful. It is clean and safe the people are the friendly people. When you walk down town Oakville people say Hi how are you😍I find Burlington people not as friendly as Oakville people. I find the people in Burlington actually are snotty way more than Oakville. Yes of course Oakville isn't perfect but pretty near perfect . But nowhere is perfect

1. You need to pay in order to play. Home prices are definitely out of control. 2. North of Dundas is a total mess. The ON government made sure massive amount of houses/condos get built in order to accomodate the insatiable housing needs. The town widen the roads instead of making public transportation better. Then again, the type of folks who move to Oakville recently are the typical "public transport is beneath me" types. 3. Horrific traffic congestions where 403 W bound merges with QEW is still a mystery even after more lanes were added. My unscientific observation says "people don't know how to merge properly". A total shite show for no apparent reason. 4. I guess you can expect snootiness from super rich/nouveau riche types. Not exclusive to anywhere. 5. Malls are dying everywhere so it is a blessing in disguise for Oakville not having a big mall.

Hi just wanted to know how safe Oakville is for people of colour especially blacks.
@LivingInHamiltonOntarioCanada2 жыл бұрын
Oakville is a very safe city. It's apart of the region Halton which for 23 years has been rated the safest area of 100,000+ people in Canada. And Oakville has a diverse population where all are welcome!
