For anyone thinking about it: Please don't move to Portugal for tax or money reasons. Please move there for the culture, food, people, and nature. I enjoyed my time there so much not because it was "affordable" for a US person, but because everything was truly excellent.
@jjkanal6404 күн бұрын
I live in Australia and can safely say that Portugal is no longer "affordable", rent is average 1.3k euros a month on the major cities and the groceries are more expensive than here in Australia. I'm considering moving there for the culture and vibe, not for the "affordability"

I feel like immigration into Portugal is going to change dramatically. The Chega government is gaining popularity everyday there and has similar views on immigration like Italy, the USA, now Canada and others. I like your comments on integration to culture and not bringing what you left behind with you. It certainly helps locals be less resistant and more welcoming to newcomers.

As it should. We are 10M people. Not a big country like the others you mentioned. We dont act now, the whole country will be unrecognizable in 10, 20 years. Besides, the struggles with immigration is making people more aware of how the EU plans to make Portugal reliant on tourism is NOT good for the country. We need to be more selfreliant economically and that isnt going to come about my making policies that only focus on making the country attractive to foreigners and shutdown Portugals ability to develop its industries.

I actually need some help. Do you know enough about the new NHR, the Fiscal Incentive for Scientific Research and Innovation (IFICI) Program? I am finishing up my degree in Comp Sci this year and I want to find a remote job so I can move to Portugal from the states, I just don’t know if I will be able to afford to live in Portugal if I am taxed on half of my income. I don’t mind being taxed as long as I can afford to live, but I don’t understand how any of this works.

Whist I don’t have anything against influx of immigrants (including the so-called expats), I would urge our Portuguese government to step up the infrastructure to match. That is manage the influx matching with the build/improve the infrastructure. And should be done not only in coastal places and in cities, but also in rural areas as well Because some of incoming immigrants from rich countries are actually going rural areas (buying small farms). If government fails driving build/improve the infrastructure (as we’re seeing on healthcare), the move out will be sudden and disastrous for Portugal (Portugal’s mark). Well, posting here in “Dave em Portugal” hopping someone from government do read here 🤔 🤣🤣

I wish the government would implement a golden visa based on rehabilitating homes in disrepair. There are so many homes that need to be brought back to habitability! It would be a win-win!

@@MirandaHorger Golden Visa has a bad rap here, that meant those who had the money and including rich Chinese and rich Russians could get a foothold in Europe. Not that I intend to single out Chinese and Russians, BUT, when you see the influence of Russians oligarchs on Brexit, one DO has to take notice. Also on the “blank check” that is Golden Visas, and reinforcing I’m not intend on singling out Chinese and Russians, one has to be aware on mal-intention of those like Steve Bannon and Mike Pompeo towards Europe and towards EU. I’m saying, on the outlook of becoming the opposite of what draws people to here we must be on the outlook who we let in, and run away of simplistic solutions, at the same time look out for ourselves in Portugal. There is a Trump administration coming in, the Whole World should buckle up to what’s coming in which is still unknown. Those in USA should look for a Huge dollar surge either from magic printer or by foreign money pouring in, and if you’re not a NY prosecutor, one of girls suing him, or you’re not Anthony Fauci or in his team, you’ll be fine and in a potential of earning good dollars.

@@MirandaHorger Not this again. Foreigners always notice the houses. The old buildings are not a priority. The quality of life of the average citizen is not going to improve because of it.
