I did the exact same thing. I lived in Chicago in my early 20's b/c I thought STL didn't much to offer. Living that overpriced city life taught me what to appreciate about St. Louis, no doubt. Glad you're back!

I moved to STL from the DC area thinking it was going to be a boring city! Oh lord I was wrong! From Buffaloes waking freely to the largest free zoo in the country all free. To include The Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, Science Center, Some Muny Events or certain seats, to the largest urban park in the country Forrest Park. To put it into perspective Forrest Park is 500 acres larger than Central Park in NYC. The neighborhoods most historical are unique and beautiful. We have a light rail system that needs some security but during the day is pretty safe. Now we have an old school light rail trolley at Delmar Loop and a small China Town Square near I-170 and Olive. There’s a lot of construction downtown and Ballpark Village Phase II is almost half way done! Must love this city I know I fell in love with it. One more thing we have a professional hockey and baseball teams Blues and Cardinals, and pretty soon an MLS professional soccer team. Also we have Union Station, Aquarium coming soon and a Ferris Wheel 🎡 right next the the Union Station. If I try to write all the good stuff its going to take me a long long time! Come visit and if you like it make the move! PS, We only want professional to move in lol... or hard working families!

I lived in St. Louis between late 2011 and mid 2013, went to Webster University. Something about this city I keep wanting to move back. Crime is high, but the west side is pretty much safe. Low cost of living, hardly any traffic jams, great night life. Beautiful and affordable loft apartments in downtown. Oh, and Imos pizza is something!
@JohnVoirolGroup

St. Louis has that effect. I know many people who have moved away and eventually returned. It’s an easy place to live and they quality of life is really good (e.g. little traffic, great restaurants, many cultural institutions, amazing parks, low cost of living). If you combine city and county crime stats, as other metro areas do, crime is not disproportionately higher than in similarly sized places. I live on the South side and am quite happy to be there. Come on back!

Compared to other cities..st louis literally one of the best places to live..since there is good and bad everywhere I appreciate that as a city and surrounding areas it has so much to offer and everything is affordable. And you literally can travel to anywhere from here in a short amount of time since it's in the middle of the country with a major airport and train system,not to mention gettin around on the metro transit systems is invaluable.
@WalksandSuch
@WalksandSuch 5 жыл бұрын
I lived there for two years in law school, 2016-2018...I would say it's an AMAZING place to settle down. It's VERY affordable compared to 75% of the rest of the country. It's beautiful, with TONS of free stuff and history to explore. The only thing I think it's bad for is for young people who don't have kids. There's not many clubs or concerts...a lot of the better stuff goes to Chicago or Kansas City. It's great for bar food and for drinking...but if you like to go out to clubs and dance, it's pretty bad. The nightlife in that regard can be kind of sketchy/sleazy. But if you're family-oriented, and you don't plan on 'going out clubbing," than it's perfect.
@WalksandSuch

@Top 10 in the World as long as you live in a decent area (i don't recommend anywhere in the North of the city) and you use common sense, you'll be 100% fine. What school are you going to?
@iluvcakes19
@iluvcakes19 4 жыл бұрын
@@WalksandSuch this is true. Singles, young adults, and empty nesters will struggle to stay occupied, if excitement and/or entertainment is desired. There just isn't a lot to do if you like variety. Living in STL means you'll frequent the same spots until you outgrow them. But as everyone knows, having friends is the best panacea. Also, if your'e ambitious STL isn't the place for you. In this case I say follow the opportunities knowing that you can always come back. What STL IS good for is the family oriented person, the person that wants to settle down, and the person that wants to live comfortably without needing a boatload of money.

WOW, AT LAST A POSITIVE REVIEW ABOUT SAINT LOUS!! Believe it or not, i've always heard negative things about Sain't Louis. (Mostly gang violence, and shootings and crime.) Moving to St. Louis so soon as I find and buy a house there. Used to live in Chicago and Hibbing when I was a kid. This weekend will make my 3rd trip up there and hopefully I will be a home owner. There is something about this city that is totally captivating The people there are friendly, the weather is nice...it's a gun friendly state, and unlike the cockroach state, aka Florida, it has nowhere near the corruption--especially in health care and government. Living in a state that doesn't have 500 money grubbing lawyers per square inch and endless pharma and personal injury ads pasted and posted EVERYWHERE is a much welcomed reprieve as well. Just the thought of moving there has given me a huge second wind. Me going there to retire....??? Don't know the meaning of it. I will start a business and also crank out a few CDs. I can't wait!!

My hometown. So under appreciated and so underrated. Great housing, great cultural institutions, burgeoning food scene, ethnic groups, cool vibe and best part, it’s best days are ahead. All St. Louis needs is new combers from all over to add some energy and flair. All cities have crime, all cities have issues, but I can’t think of another city with more potential than right here.

@@JohnVoirolGroup I LOVED my time living Downtown. I think in 5 years, with all the construction and development in the central corridor, St Louis will be a buzz with new life. I spent 8 years living the single life in Downtown and lived like a millionaire thanks to the low cost of living. Every weekend you could pop into the many great, diverse neighborhoods and have a good time. There is so much culture here that it's unreal. I was spoiled with things to do. I always have a soft spot in my heart for the Lou. I just wish the crime was under control. Nice vid!

I have lived near Stl my entire life, it’s a really fun place to visit, though it’s not a very safe place to live in some parts. You really have to research before you buy or rent. Two of my friends have gotten their cars jacked in broad daylight while I was with them (one at the galleria and one in tower grove) and other people I know have gotten their places robbed at gun point (tower grove). The only really safer places to live are creve coeur, Webster groves, and Frontenac. There are more safer places to live in Stl, but those are the main ones that come to mind.

@@anthonyemerson7058 If you like city living in a dense neighborhood with lots of shops and historic homes, look into the Central West End. Easy access to highway 40 takes you right into IL. If you prefer a larger yard and a community that puts on small parades and gatherings for little ones look to Glendale, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves. With over 70 different municipalities in St. Louis County, choosing a neighborhood can be a challenge. If you're buying a home I'd suggest connecting with a licensed REALTOR® who can help you get to know some communities that might work for you. Reach out to us anytime at info@johnvoirolgroup.com. This was useful although I came to many of the same conclusions as you make here after taking a long, hard look at a number of places. We will be in St Louis next week for an in-person look around. I've been there before but my partner hasn't & is a bit skeptical. We were in Phoenix in March & he liked it very much but I think it has grown too fast. The summer heat, heavy traffic & lack of cosmopolitan attractions are worrisome. St Louis has so many of the pluses found in bigger cities but at lower costs & with smaller crowds. St Louis also has some of the nicest neighborhoods & beautiful old houses in the country as I recall. I look forward to getting reacquainted.

Finding a modestly priced home with a small yard is not too difficult to do. When you’re ready, send me a note with your search criteria and price range and I’ll get you set up on an automatic listing alert, or you can sign up yourself JohnVoirolGroup.com!

I’m going to be moving to STL in a couple of months. I will be renting ... somewhere. Is it relatively cheap to just rent a place? I won’t be buying right away.
@socialmoth4974

Yes, depending on the neighborhood you choose. If you want to live in the city, you can get a decent apartment for around $600/mo. If you want something nice in the suburbs, it's closer to $2k/mo. I owned a home in the Southampton part of the city. It was a safe area and relatively cheap. I have moved the the suburbs in the past couple years for the schools, though.

Can someone talk to me about the public transporation system? Do you need a car to live and work there?
@BentleyAlexW
@BentleyAlexW 5 жыл бұрын
Violet K. You don’t necessarily need a car to work here. There are a lot of public buses that commute to and from majority of St. Louis. Now there are some areas out where buses and trains won’t go but it won’t prevent you from obtaining work, getting to and from work or home. You can purchase a weekly pass for about $30 Monthly passes are closer to $100/120 . This is good for the buses and trains. You basically just swipe or scan the pass. Most buses run like every 30 -45 minutes with the exception of a couple bus lines running closer to hourly. On sundays usually buses stop running sooner. 9-10pm being around the time the last bus runs for the night before picking up again at around 5:30/6am. There are exceptions. The bus that serves the street Grand Ave runs quite late and a lot more frequent than any other bus I know of. Sometimes there’s a bus coming just 10 mins after missing one and running as late as 1am. If a car is the only thing preventing you from moving here I’d say make that move .

It's not bad at all, they could have a snowstorm or two, but compared to Chicago, Minneapolis and all cities to the north and west STL is a piece of cake. Just 4 hours south an you have Memphis, were their more concerned with frozen rain and sleet in the winter. So in perspective it's not a bad winter at all.

@matthewgoodman7010 4 жыл бұрын
The murder rate can be misleading for two reasons: 1- stl "city" is fairly small with plenty of bad neighborhoods. Most of the nice areas are outside of the city itself. 2- the metro area is comprised of many small municipalities. If you want the downtown feel, look at Clayton, Clayton is insanely safe and feels just like a downtown. Look at the crime statistics for the specific neighborhood, and you'll be surprised. It's just that stl has a higher ratio of bad areas to good ones, and the bad areas are really bad. You can find plenty of safe neighborhoods 15minutes from downtown with apts under 1k/mo.
