Solid advice on paring items down before the move. Contact any moving company and get their price per pound and you will be shocked. Speaking from experience; sell it, donate it, or give it away, is the best way to move. You can always shop garage sales and thrift stores in you new town. I hope to move to Tennessee soon and am so glad to have found you on KZbin.🙂

I am so glad you agree!! I love neutral my wife it really basically comes from the experience of working with people who move here and what they said they wish they had done Dash especially in the recent 12 months! We had a great antique stores, Facebook marketplace, so many good options to create your new home combining found objects here and loved furniture from your old location. Is there any Topic you would like us to cover or location to learn about?

Another suggestion for the "interim" period is to buy a fifth wheel and live there. My mom said she'd give anything if her and my dad had done that while they were building our house cutting out the hassle of moving place to place. They could've enjoyed the RV for years to come. Once you've moved into your home you'll be able to take the money that you would've spent on an apartment and put in the tangible ala fifth wheel and you will have something to travel in later to some of the most beautiful campgrounds here and abroad after your good and settled here. So, put your money to "smart use". Just saying.

Really good advice. I'm looking to retire and move in 2 years. My house is all paid off, so when I move and buy, it will be with cash and I won't need a lender. I'd already planned on not bringing most of my stuff, but I hadn't thought of moving the appliances. Or of making deals to rent my house here for a month or so while finding and purchasing the new home there.

It’s getting so crazy all the people moving to Tennessee, please try to be respectful of small town ways if you decide to move to a small town. Everyone will invite you to church and you may feel a bit out of place but remember in small towns a lot of people are related or grew up there , everyone knows everyone’s everything and there is comfort in the familiar . And your children may be paddled if there’s a problem at school. Usually you will get a call that you can come down there and do it or the principal will. But it’s happening. It’s yes mam no mam or you lose your recess.

@@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1 we are from middle Tennessee but the southern part and we are considered coun try ( said cun tree ) lol ! It gives a lot of meaning with that pause . But I wouldn’t have raised my family anywhere else. I think people from other states think that means we are poor, to the contrary people down here tend to not be too showy and just live well . The old man down the road sitting on his porch in the muddy coveralls could probably buy and sell a lot of them. But still be friendly as you could get.

I'm from a very right wing family here in NJ. Christian, Conservative, hunter and lifelong NRA member. We live in a very red part of NJ but the taxes and the demographic shift are starting to become unbearable. We visited Gatlinburg in November and are seriously considering making a move to TN. My nephew just moved his family to Oak Ridge. I'm looking for somewhere not too far from there kind of off the grid, where I can hunt whitetail, but still close enough to civilization. Any suggestions of where to look?

Stay away from the metropolitan areas. There are many rural areas that are within 30 minutes of the big cities that still give you that country feel. Look for land parcels with few restrictions but yet still have access to city services like electric & water. Solar and wells sound so great in theory but can be expensive to get installed if you’re in deeper rural settings. LP gas and septic systems can usually be had for less expense but sometimes can be problematic also if you don’t choose the right property. Your money will go a lot further also in semi rural areas of TN. There are many variables depending on what you are looking for and how much your willing to spend. Do your research and by all means visit different areas before you make a decision.

I’m in Jersey as well and have been waiting to relocate specifically to Tennessee once my son graduated high school. He’s done and we are now downsizing and looking around. NJ is a DEAD END state when it comes to trying to live. If your not “rich” your constantly drowning. Selling is going to be a bidding war as my area actually has a waiting list currently but it’s finding my final homestead.
@ClutchFan

@@MaryAnn_Nolan We sold our home in Central NJ last year and we moved up to Morris county. It's beautiful up here but the taxes are just awful. I know what you mean about being "rich" and barely getting by. My wife and I both make good salaries but the state basically takes everything. If I move out of NJ to something comparable in TN I will save almost 150k by the time I retire. It's really a no brainer, but like you, we have a son that is here and it's tough just picking up and leaving him.

Hi what is a good family area? Not too expensive
@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1
@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1 3 жыл бұрын
Hi think I need to leave it more information! How far do you need to be or want to be from work? Where is work? How old are your children? What things does your family enjoy doing? How much money are you approved for? Once I know many answers to these questions I can give you the best areas that meet those parameters… Does that make sense? Not too expensive to you and me is probably very different than to someone coming from New York , San Diego etc! Once I have a little bit more information I am happy to recommend some places to take a look at😊

@@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1 Aww, Hi, Thank you so much for reaching out, that means a lot to me, I just got your message, It's 4AM Atlanta time, I apologize that it's taken so long to get back to you, I just had the chance to finish watching this video, and I feel I may need your help, and even Rachaels help too from National Apartment Locator, I'm in a real pickle. My 76-year-old father and I need some advice and a short term rental for our family and companion animals before I get locked into a lease in a place that might not be the safest place for Dad and me to walk the furkids, and especially don't want anyone trying to take our 32-year-old car for a joy ride, we are from Atlanta, and nothing really phases us, but while everyone wants trim finishing, we are really laid back, nice and easy Greek family, keeping it simple, just want a safe place for Dad and our companion animals to live short term while I'm relocating back to Nashville and buying our home. I'll be in touch soon, need to get to work, and get the day started, I only have 8 days left here at the place I've been for 8 years after my mother passed away things got really complicated and I've had to figure things out from a different perspective, not sure what the next step is other than to get in touch sometime later today. Been all over AirBNB/Zillow/Trulia/Hotpads/Apartmentfinder, it's not working out for me, Zillow is a mess, and Remax wants an arm, a leg, and my 1st born that's a twinkle in my eye... singing, them a song would probably be easier, in fact, God is probably easier to get ahold of than those people on Zillow with bad apartments and houses for rent. I mean for $1500 a month can I at least get a fridge? i can live without a bathtub and a bedroom, this has been the last decade of my life, dishwasher out the window, don't need it, what about a fridge? or do I have to rent that too lol?!?! How hard can it be to find a short-term rental, for 3 people, and 3 small companion animals that don't even weigh more than 6 pounds each? I mean all they do is sit on the couch and watch tv, all of them except me who works remotely as a grief counselor, pretty soon I'm going to need a grief counselor if I don't find a solution. =...(

I would suggest to folks leaving the West Coast to get away from the disaster the Liberals have created out there to look more towards Eastern Tennessee, from Knoxville out to Johnson City. Especially if you are nearing retirement years. Johnson City just made the list of the top 10 emerging markets in America for retirement, also Nashville, which is becoming quite a bit pricey , is also quite a bit more liberal, Although I doubt you will encounter the far leftist antifa/blm liberalism to the point where riots occur, stores are burned and cops are shot ..like everything that I saw out in Seattle. I sold my home and my rental property I had in Seattle and moved out towards the Johnson City area, I live right between Johnson City and Greenville.. it's absolutely beautiful, extremely affordable, more than enough walking trails, hiking trails, lakes rivers and the ski areas are right across the border..

@@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1, I do along with so , so many more. Tennessee isn't safe, children are.stolen fir sex trafficking , drug manufacturing, illegal guns, stolen car parts. And all coming in and out in what appears a very innocent way. There have been many deaths n as a result of illegal activities and most of the Judicial branch plays a role in it. My son was killed trying to stop child sex trafficking in one of the most beautiful districts in Tennessee, the 13th judicial district. The area has the highest suicide rate in the state but most aren't suicides, there murders. Pice will not make missing persons reports for 5 days or more after young people disappear, knowing the first 48 is critical to bringing abducted people home. Check out a group Tennessee's Dark Hole, you'll see the darkness that lives there and apparently from around Carthage Tennessee on east of Nashville. I'd rather live in Nashville than before 7 counties. That group is 4 months old with more than 25 cases in it and more coming. I knew there was trouble but not such danger. The lakes and hills are as beautiful as there is on earth, but they hold a lot of deep dark secrets that LE has never been on

@@LivingInNashvilleTennessee1 I apologize. I was in a bad mood when I made the comment, and being dramatic. 😌 I’ve lived in Nashville since I was 15 (1993) and I just don’t really recognize it anymore. I miss what it used to be - less crowded, more laid back. I miss music venues that have ceased to exist. Stores that closed down 20 years ago. Being able to wander around Cheekwood and enjoy the solitude. Not paying 25+ bucks to park 😆 Just feeling nostalgic and missing the good old days, I guess.
