Moving to Wisconsin: The Start of our Homesteading Adventure

RVing full time has always been a stepping stone for us to get to our ultimate goal: owning landing, and building a sustainable future for ourselves and our kids. While RVing has proved a little more expensive than originally intended (that's a consistent theme), we've been "living it up" while we've also been searching for land to calls ours.
Last fall we purchased 20 acres in Wisconsin, and this summer we're busy developing our land. So now, our channel is two fold: our traveling adventures (excited to resume travels at the end of the summer) and our homesteading journey in all of its messy, inexperienced glory.

Milk in a bag is the only way I buy it here in Ontario! It comes in a larger bag with 3 individuals. So much nicer than pouring from a carton or a big jug!

Ha, well there ya go! My husband was amused to show it to me, but we used it that way all summer! I agree, much nicer. 😃

Did you know that you can freeze those bags of milk. If it goes on sale, you can buy a few bags and pop them in the freezer.

@@NeighborofKT I have definitely done that in the past but it never goes on sale here and we always have no trouble getting through the 4 litres.

Yeaaaahhhh. It was all such a mess. He shouldn't have even gone down there, and had to take it so fast just to make it up. Pretty sure a guardian angel put their hand between our trailer and that darn tree! 😅

Welcome to Wisconsin! You're right about the southern part of the state, seems to get more humid all the time (and I'm geting older and less able to deal!) I was living out in the secluded country until 2 subdivisions were built across the road ☹️ Now back on the farm I grew up in, yay! The best of luck with your dreams! ❤

That's great! Of course, all the subdivisions going in.... we'd really like our neighbors in the cabins and on the farms to know we're planning a homestead and are not developers! Ha! Thanks for sharing. :)

Why haven't I even seen your channel before? We are from Fresno, was going to RV, bought one, and when my husband retired from teaching, circumstances intervened and we only did it for 3 mos. We were thinking TN, NC & KY. My sister had moved to WI 5 yrs earlier, my only sibling. So we took the plunge. We bought 40 acres, 4 bdrm home, barm, We bought an additional 40 acres. We have 80 acres now. We raise beef and rent out our farmland. We have Amish neighbors which is a plus. Just subscribed! I hate the snow & cold, but, it's better than CA. I think the GOV should close the state down in winter, and, send everyone south to warm weather. We live in a sm town south of Eau Claire You are in for an adventure.

I agree that you have to weigh the downsides, and if winter is our biggest problem, we're just fine. ;) I've loved the Amish community here in central Wisconsin. We're east of Eau Claire!! I’m from Wisconsin, by the Dells. My wife and I plus the kiddos live in north Georgia, where she is from. Love it here, but over crowded. We go up every summer for a few weeks to visit my family.

I feel like all the good places are getting over crowded. We're hoping we're so far north in WI, no one will want to come up here and endure the winters with us. HA! We have good friends in Macon and were there last March! Beautiful area.

Where in Wisconsin? I am from northern wis and we will be starting our journey homesteading here this summer.. we purchased 70 acres in 2016 and have been dreaming of homesteading since then but only now is it beginning to happen
