Oh yeah! I was very surprised the firs time it happened, cuz I never trained her to come back home, you know?.... And I bet, if I was to let her go, she would just get lost. And yet, she still wanted to go back and try to find her old home...... instincts.... it's crazy!

I was given my white pigeon when he was 4 weeks old. He is now 4-1/2 months old. In November (2-1/2 more months) we are moving out of state. It will be a 4-day ride in a car, and Teeka and I will have my own room, instead of this apartment. I am elderly and very ill and can't clean up after Teeka in this apartment. I hope he adjusts to moving into a room with me. He is very bonded to me, so I'm hoping there won't be a problem.

I feed some pigeons today in Scarborough after a long time and it felt so nice. Reminded me of my old pigeons from back in the days 🥲 FYI, Pigeons in Quebec just like the people are TOTALLY DIFFERENT than any parts of Canada. Pigeons there don't like red lentils at all whereas pigeons from ALL AROUND THE WORLD WORLD love that stuff!

I've made friends with the local feral pigeons. They are so adorable and friendly, but they can be quite mean to each other too. One of my local pigeons only has one leg so I always try to make sure she has a good cropfull every time I see her. She has difficulty holding on to my hand with her one foot, but she is slowly getting better at it.

Not just being territorial, they also need to establish a pecking order in a new flock.

Interesting! If they consider a place home and they were to be accidentally let out a window, would they be basically guaranteed to return after a while?
@mylittlepigeon278 Жыл бұрын
Hey , Stapler! Thank you very much for watching my video and your comment! :)... Unfortunately, it's a misconception that without training pigeons will come back home (feral pigeons get that training naturally by hanging out in the same areas, so they learn landmarks and all that. If you will catch a feral pigeon, take it away.. it will come back to where you took it from :D)... Toby's instinct tells her that she needs to fly home. But if I was to let her out, she would be trying to find the way back, but will get lost, since - not trained. :(

let the birds freeeeeee
@mylittlepigeon278 Жыл бұрын
Hey LuckUmotive! Thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment :) Unfortunately any domestic bird that was born and raised with humans, weather pigeon, or chicken, or even a parrot.. will die if "set free". Especially if those birds were tamed and raised as pets. They don't have same instincts nor they understand what "threat" really is. In most cases, they will either die fast under the wheels of a car or starvation and thirst. However, depending on how tame the "set free" "bird is, it will go back to people looking for help ( pets or domestic animals know that humans are the source of food, water and shelter.. that's simply how they've been raised all their life by people. People\pet owners are suppressing their bird's instinct of self-preservation, so that they won't be scared and fully depend on us. That's just the main idea of a pet :D.... despite the fact that naturally wild birds are terrified of us, cuz they know that they technically can be our food... Pet birds think they are one of us...... I know I wrote a lot.. :D .. what I really wanted to say is that " set free" pet bird will either die, or go look for another human to keep being a pet for them. :D... so "set free" works only for a wild bird that was injured, you saved it... and now it's time to return it to their home : which is wild nature :D.. pet birds have their home with humans. :D

Why blame the pigeons for being territorial when far more advanced beings called humans can’t rid of being territorial after centuries of evolution 😅
@mylittlepigeon278 Жыл бұрын
hahaha! when I read "far more advanced beings called humans..." I started to laugh! ... so good! :D It's very true... Humans are like pigeons: we like to live an a "flock" but at the same time have our own personal territory :D
