MotoGP is the premier class of world championship motorcycle road racing.
It was introduced in 2002 as the successor to the former premier 500cc class
championship, changing the regulation to under-500cc 2-stroke machines or
under-990cc 4-stroke machines. Today, the championship is contested on
under-1000cc 4-stroke machines.
