Given the price that the markets sell fish for, 5.50/lb seems crazy low compared to over 15-20.00/lb for snapper.

Think about all the middle men before it gets to the customer or even more from a restaurant. Fish market has the pay the fishermen. Then they have to recoup that money plus a decent profit on who they sell it to. Then it will go to a processor. Then packaged and shipped out worldwide. Each place has a finger in the pie.

All the Quota have been sold for basically ever in the Gulf . This guy must have a Atlantic license of some sort . Its not like you can just go buy a license and sell a few fish , If you fish in Gulf waters you would have to have a quota which someone would need to sell you . And they might sell to the son or daughter , maybe. Not sure what this guy has going on to sell fish.

$990 is close enough to $1000 to round it off and do it in your head 40% of $1000 is $400 BOOM Leaves you $600 to split . Give the $10 back you borrowed leaves you with $295 each . I learned math OLD SCHOOL , add a little in the beginning and take it back off in the end. 67 + 54 becomes 70 + 60 you borrowed 7 ..70 + 60 -- 9 is easier to do in your head . Those were some pretty mingos. I still can't wrap my head around why the fish don't immediately go in to the slush. It just seems like the quicker they hit the ice the more pristine the fish will be. Another thing that wigs me out is you don't seem to lose any from hooks tearing out on the way up. I guess the stretch in the mono helps with that. Remembered to hit the like button this time.

Well, commercial fishin' I s all about gettin' as much fish as possible so when they're bitin'you don't waste any time. As long as they're in the shade nothing's gonna happen for a while, still put them on ice as fast as possible of course. Stretch is helpful to prevent any peaks of pressure that would cause to push the hooks past their limit, but you can also see him use pretty heavy duty hooks, at least for snapper, which has, together with the quality of the steel (not even that much about absolute strength, but more about how many load circles they can take till they stay bend or break), the highest influence in my experience.
