This video was a God-send! My dad had a stroke 3 weeks ago and is unable to walk or speak & the lawn is outrageous at the moment. I'm a 36 year old female & the last time I mowed any lawn was when I was 11 (doing the yard work when my Grampa didn't feel well). The part of this video where you mention the option of mulching is best for shorter grass compared to taller was a BIG & thoughtful tip that I will be sure to remember! Thank you sooooo much for uploading this video. I work graveyard so I plan to mow the lawn today & clean up the edges tomorrow morning with the weed whacker. I am now subscribed to your channel and will watch any and all videos. Thank you from Southern California!

@@MyStepdad Hello Stepdad! My mowing went really well today. Your video gave me the confidence to break the ice. I was extremely nervous to begin with and scared if I will be even able to start the mower. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the video! I usually do all the mowing cause I think it’s fun. But our riding mower pooped out on us so for now we only have a push mower. I’ve never even touched one! Lol.
@MyStepdad Жыл бұрын
Riding mowers are more fun! We had close to a half an acre at our last house. Took me 3-4 hours with a push mower. When I got the riding mower it was an hour and 14 minutes of fun. 😀

That was actually sitting in a small waterfall at a scout camp. The water is about 38 degrees and the challenge is to sit in the water for 10 seconds. They call it the Polar Bear challenge. I used to hate it.

I mix up my mow patterns week-to-week. I don’t know why. Just my preference I guess.

To be honest, I've still got one child at home, so he does the mowing. Maybe I'll mix it up when I have to mow it myself again. 🙂

Is it better to just mow in the circular motion working your way in? I try doing simple stripes and for the most part it looks fine until you like near the tree
@MyStepdad3 жыл бұрын
When I say, "circular" I really mean from the outside in, but I'm like you, I do the stripes. When I get to a tree, on the last pass before I would "run into" the tree, I do a circle around the tree, then go back to the last strip I was mowing before, then, mow straight at the tree, then back off and mow the one on the other side of the tree, and then mow the half strip on the opposite side of the tree that didn't get mowed yet. If that makes any sense. It gives the appearance of having mowed "through" the tree, but you can still see the circle around the tree as well.

NOOOO ! BEFORE starting the mower, turn OFF its power source t then assure it has the CORRECT blade, is securely attached, balanced, free of defects, and SHARP. THEN you survey for, and REMOVE actual and probable HAZARDS, THEN PLAN your mowing paths and patterns. THEN , with physical protection gear on (ear plugs to avert sharp and/or loud mowing and trimming sound/noise, eye-protective glasses/goggles,and dust mask, clothing,THEN U MAY START the MOWER !!!
@MyStepdadАй бұрын
You should make a video demonstrating all these steps. That would be great.

NO ONE can mow like a PRO because mowing is merely a modestly-skilled form of LABOR and otherwise LACKS any of the requisite criteria of ALL PROFESSIONS, including a MASTER or higher academic DEGREE in a professional academic field (law, Psychology, MEDICINE, etc.).
@MyStepdadАй бұрын
I imagine all of the professional lawn care companies might disagree with this assessment.
