I usually drive a John Deere 9520rx to do chisel ploughing in rice fields here in Northern California. Tractor usually burns 700 plus litres in a 12 hour shift. It is the best tractor I’ve ever driven power, comfort ease of use. It’s a fair big change from the aul Massey Ferguson 185 I use to drive on my dads farm in Ireland. Have a safe and productive season!

Farming is hard work. I did it for years when I was a young fella but decided to drive a truck instead of staying in the farming business. And now that I'm an old fart, I drive a truck part time and work on a farm part time. Now a days I enjoy the farming a lot more than driving a truck.

I run Kuhn 9.5m non conditioning triples on a Fastrac 4220 in S.Island NZ. I cut up to 120ha per day and average 3 l/ha when mowing,I generally chop through a full tank on the Fastrac in a 12 hour day. That's very good fuel economy from the Sisu/agco motor.
@gaslight54 жыл бұрын
So 296 acres on 360l of diesel, is 1.2l an acre, that's 1.1 litre less than Andy's doing here. So about half the fuel used?
@nigelclats69704 жыл бұрын
I'm using non-conditioning mowers,plus one more 3M mower, 1/3 less trips around the paddock and less effort to run,so your figures are spot on you maths wizard.

For a total of nearly 6 meter working with. We were doing about 30 hectares that day. We finished in 10 hours and used about 160 liters of diesel. However I might add it was really heavy cut. Grass was toler than the front mower

I mow with a remapped New Holland t7 210 and triples. Round here in South Wales nearly every field is a slope so mowing obviously uses more diesel. I was mowing a 150 acre farm the other day. Mowed about 100 acres and had to go and fill up, it took 300l. Then mowed the rest and used another 100l. that's 400l and was only about a 12 hour day. The type of grass we have around here is usually quite dense and the conditioners really have their work cut out. On a typical day mowing I will normally catch a few stones and have to replace some blades. Farmers don't know their fields like they used to nor do they bother to roll them.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing It's curious that the second mowing attachment is located at the back, and quite away from the tractor : wouldn't that be much easier to have this additional mower side by side up front, or at least at the very side of the driver (let or right) ? you could drive without having to look backwards half of the time
