Man we are way too much alike. My yard was my hobby for years. I’ve played golf since I was 9 years old and was always pretty decent. Couldn’t hit the ball nearly as far as you, but played in college, won a few tournaments and club championships, but then gave it up about 15 years ago because life just didn’t make time for it and I lost interest. My yard became my obsession. I installed tahoma 31 and kept it PERFECT. I think a lot of golfers have the same obsession lol….but then a buddy asked me to play golf a few years ago and I went. Hit the ball as good as ever and that was it. Bought new irons. Then a new driver, new bag, new shoes lol you know the drill. I’m completely obsessed again and could kinda care less about the yard😅. I was blown away with all the new technology in the golf world since i had played last. Anyway, watching this, I could hear it in your voice that you’d rather be at the golf course and I know exactly how you feel😅.

Hey Pete, thanks for the videos. I recently purchased myself a bag of the GCI turf type tall fescue for my yard here in Spotsylvania Virginia, we are in the northern part of the transition zone. I was going to attempt a renovation this fall, but I think I'm going to push it off till spring to get a better leveling job done. Our home had a new septic system installed and the drain field didn't get enough backfill so we have huge ruts in the yard I've been slowly filling in with pickup truck loads of dirt, I'm up to 5yrds of dirt being spread by hand to level out the yard, we are getting close but I still need probably 2-3 more truck loads and maybe a little tractor work from my neighbor to knock down the humps. I was going to use a good glyosphate product to kill everything, but im worried my high clay content yard will hurt my germination.

Thanks for all the helpful content you put out here Pete. I have GCI Alpha Elite in part of my 12,000sf lawn but it isn't thriving in the partial shade areas. I have just put out some Blue Heat in those partial shade areas to help fill in where the Alpha Elite isn't very thick. This led to my accidental discovery of Bluemuda...mixing KBG into an existing bermuda lawn. Not sure how it is going to turn out, but have you ever experimented with any type of Bluemuda lawn?

In the same predicament. Had a beautiful celebration bermuda lawn in charleston, sc. Moved to Charlotte. I love short grass. I tried Bluegrass lawn but got smoked this year. Looking at how iron cutter performs to do an acre renovation. Keep up the fantastic work! Please post updates on the iron cutter you are testing.

Lets just pray that next summer is better! I sprayed the heck out of hydretain and watered just enough to keep the crowns alive. Looks good again now with cooler temps. Tackling a few weeds now. Looking forward to spring! I have a little trepidation about summer, but as you’ve said before, “it’s just grass.” If all I get is spring and fall sucess, so be it. Good enough to me.

Pete, I just did a yard renovation down to pure soil. I used all of your GCI Tall Fescue seed and starter fertilizer products for the project. Unfortunately, we just got a lot of rain and before the seed could germinate, we some bad weather and I have some washout areas. What do you recommend? Do i smooth the ground back out and reseed or wait to reseed after i see some germination? I was in to my third to fourth day when this just happened.
@dylan82852 ай бұрын
That thick thatch and rhizomes of KBG is what makes it such good sod. Stuff will only be cut with like a half inch thick and holds very strongly together.

I recently purchased the spring tine assembly for my used power rake i picked up from my local home depot last month. The tines look like the ones on the grounds keeper 2 rake. I have the sunjoe dethatcher but i dont like the fact you have to cut the turff so low to use it. The tines on the attachment that replaces the aggressive flail blades are 4"

I’ve used the groundskeeper rake every year to rake out my 4000 sqft lawn. It’s a ton of work and I wish I had a DIY mechanical option. I think true dethatchers are too aggressive, even the sun Joe electric one that I have. Do you have an effective DIY idea for a mechanical option? I remember in the past you’ve used your reel mower to rake out the dead material but I’ve never seen a rental option for that.
@jcs17582 ай бұрын
@jimmymiller5465 I have the SunJoe dethatcher. There are a few other manufacturers of a similar machine or there a well. It's dethatcher blade has the spring steel just like the Groundskeeper 11 rake. It's easy to use, very light and does an excellent job
@jimmymiller54652 ай бұрын
@@jcs1758 I still have my sun Joe but it was too aggressive the last time I used it and just ripped the lawn apart. Plus I hate dragging a cord around to use. I think I might try it again but I’m not looking forward to it.
@jcs17582 ай бұрын
@jimmymiller5465 interesting.... I've used mine for 3 years. I usually apply a PGR to the lawn 1 week prior to starting. I cut the lawn short, bagging the clippings. Then I dethatch.1 pass east west, the second north south. I run the mower to pick up the debris, saving hand rake time. I spread the seed and then drag the Groundskeeper 11 lightly to help drop the seed to the soil. I typically get great results/germination. Yes the cord is a pain, but.... There are battery-powered version. I usually do 3k to 8k areas and it goes relatively quickly
@jimmymiller54652 ай бұрын
@@jcs1758 how short do you normally cut it before using the sun joe?
