I think being comfortable is also human. We are meant to crave comfort. Being comfortable is not bad but if you have feelings of wanting something else or more- than that’s when you are uncomfortable and need change.

@@moyamawhinney I think most of the time we are in a constant race to be better and chase after our goals, when we forget to stop and appreciate how hard we have worked to get where we are. I don't think being comfortable is bad, i think it is just a pause in our journey and being present and enjoying our achievements
@Anne-t1g2 ай бұрын
This! I don't think comfort and growth are mutually exclusive. A comfortable setting free of stressors really gives inner processes the chance to unravel and you a chance of a deeper understanding of yourself. Even therapy works best when the patient is in a comfortable and safe place and has room to grow! While therapy during a uncomfortable time and crisis focuses more on stabilising and bringing comfort and safety before working on the issues! So I agree with these comments, if you are in a comfortable place and start working through your goals and inner issues and come out feeling UNcomfortable, it's because your place of comfort isn't really the right type of comfort for you anymore. And maybe that's the task; to find out what will bring you happiness and comfort now that you've grown out of your comfort zone.

I love the reflection on the growth mindset and have similar thoughts. However, I find within myself it sometimes comes from a place of being a perfectionist too. the need to always be better is great and admirable but balance is important. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the comfort of something that serves you and there can always be further exploration within that. Life is so challenging at points sometimes it is best to savour the comfort within it. Thank you for sparking engaging dialogue and thoughts

I always have some trouble with the 'comfort zone' thing that we've always been told. Some people do find joy in comfort. For those who knew a lot of discomfort, reaching the "comfort zone" is the promised land, the oasis. I did a lot of growing to allow myself to enjoy any part of my life where I find ease, flow and familiarity. I do think it is a lot about perspective, one could argue you are not in your comfort zone right now because you do not feel comfortable, you feel maybe stuck? Wanting more, growing..this can be achived organically by following your heart. If you grow tired of something, you will grow naturally out of it. love the daily life vlogs

Also regarding the comfort zone conversation - I feel the same. There is no growth without both comfort and challenge. What is one thing that scares you? Identify it and try to challenge it to gain a sense of achievement and growth. For me, I am scared by the ocean/swimming so I have signed up to a scuba diving course which terrifies and excites me.

In the last part of the video, when you talked about leaving your comfort zone, I could totally relate. I recently moved to India for an internship, and everything is new and unfamiliar. It's uncomfortable because I don't know anyone, but I know that it's the only way for me to grow. Of course, I would rather be at home with my friends and family, but I also get bored with that after a while. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way.

I think art is something that is hard to enjoy for its sake without judging ourself. Maybe it’s because what we produce reflects our inner state more than anything else we do and so any criticism feels very personal and hard to take .. and so many of us quit as a result. I started again recently after giving up at school and felt so much joy from just drawing practice circles. I thought I must focus more on the joy it brings than what I or others think about the result. Enjoy your art ❤

Omg, thank you for this video. I feel I'm experiencing exactly the same fear about being creative and not caring about the result, because is not going to be good (and shouldn’t matter as long as I am happy.) Thank you Moya for understanding, but mostly for sharing ❤

Hi Moya, I’ve been watching your videos since you were at uni, and I just wanted to say I completely understand how you feel. During my surprise gap year I was so frustrated, feeling like I wasn’t growing and I was just stuck. My experience has been that the more I pray and look to God, the more opportunities I recognise in my life, it’s not always easy and I am often pushed out of my comfort zone, but slowly I am growing as a person, and I know it’s in the right direction. Just wanted to say I will be praying for you, and if you feel like there’s something you’re missing in life, know that He is constantly watching over you, loves you like crazy and is waiting for you to talk to him. One of my favourite verses is Isaiah 49:16, I hope you like it too ❤

What I have realised for myself is that I hate being uncomfortable and my comfort zone is like a blanket I wrap myself in - nothing bad can happen to us in the blanket of our comfort zone The thing is, staying in your comfort zone is a slow form of self destruction for a creative individual (i think) . Because when we aren't challenging ourselves in new ways, we're not succeeding in new areas which I think will ultimately bring our self esteem down. I think we need to take creative risks and welcome the idea of potentially failing in some endeavours because that is how we grow as people and as artists. But that is all a very black and white way we are approaching this, success vs failure, comfort vs no comfort etc I think the most healthy way to approach wanting to branch out is just to look at it as play, just trying new things for fun and nothing else and seeing what comes out of it Instead of striving to reach success in a new hobby and wanting to be the best, just try to make it playful and fun and take a break when it feels too serious
